Quote:The bodies of three women have been recovered from the sea off Brighton early today, Sussex Police have said.
Emergency services were called at around 5.45am due to concerns for the welfare of three women in the sea off Brighton, with three bodies being retrieved near Madeira Drive.
Ambulance crews and critical care paramedics attended the scene, but despite the best efforts of all those involved, they were declared deceased at the scene, South East Coast Ambulance Service said.

We have had the same thing happen here where two bodies, a father and son, were pulled out of a lake.

I wonder if these deceased people were unskilled boaters or rather the weather wasn't as accommodating as they expected? I took a Skipper's course decades ago along with a marine radio course and believe me there is a lot to learn in the way of safety.

I wonder if they "fell" off a not so small boat?

Their identities have yet to be confirmed.

I guess we will know more as new information materializes.

But as far as I'm aware, small boats crossing the Channel rarely land at Brighton.

The constable did not really say much(commentary begins 12:40).

Just that it's an ongoing investigation.

The identities of those who perished have yet to be established.

And they are checking/looking for CCTV from local residences and businesses.

Have to admit that was my first thought but it appears they were going for a paddle and weren't aware of a steep drop in the sea floot. Could be due to being poor swimmers or heart attack/cramp/drowing from cold water shock where the water suddenly gets deeper.

They were still in clothes rather than swiming costumes which would make swimming a lot harder. It's rumoured they may have been drunk or high and had attended Brighton Festival or the Student night at a club on the beach as they're meant to be in their early 20s.

"This is a sensitive investigation that includes a number of hypotheses, and it would not be appropriate to speculate as we to continue to gather evidence.
I would once again ask for the public's patience while we establish the full facts, which will be shared publicly as soon as we are able."
He asked anyone with information to contact police."

It’s much harder to swim in a full set of clothing...

Could they have possibly fallen off something like a small pleasure/row boat?

Maybe capsized?

Could even have been caught in a rip tide.
