Here we go ....

Latest forecast for this weekend (Jan 24 & 25) has

-  DC getting 2 feet of snow.
- West of DC getting 2 to 3 feet of snow.
- Philly getting 18 inches to 2 feet of snow.
- NYC getting at least a foot of snow
- Hartford CT getting at least a foot of snow.
- The deep South, Carolinas and Texas expecting massive ICE storm with power outages.
- Nashville - 30 inches of snow plus ice.

I hang out in weather forums.  I only understand half of what is said.
But it's interesting looking at the models and the chatter between weather folks.

The Megalopolis is going to get socked!

The Euro models are the most accurate and that's what they say.
The American GFS has the totals slightly less and further South.
But the GFS notoriously sucks compared to the Euro models.

It's going to be a stink'n mess.

My husband and I are old military so we believe in prep'n up.
Get the gas tanks filled. Do all the laundry and dishes in case power goes out.
Groceries .. was going to go Friday but think I"ll go Thursday before the crowds.
Got plenty of beeswax candles and matches.   etc etc

We usually don't get much here.   It's been 20 years since we got dumped on.
We have a dog .. a Shiba Inu.   He hates trying to do his business with snow on the ground.
Taking him for a walk is a challenge.  Icey sidewalks, having to walk in the road,
and not a blade of grass anywhere to motivate him to 'do it'.

My dogs love snow. Getting them to go out is not the problem, getting them back in is a whole 'nother story.

I'm going tomorrow to fill up on kerosene for the heaters.
Got an 8X12 shed that's full to the rafters of seasoned wood. The great thing about wood stoves is if the power goes out, I just set a pot of ham and beans on it and let them simmer all day.
Both trucks are full of gas, but I'll go Friday to top them off.
Zero turn mower has gas. I know that sounds weird but if my driveway gets covered I just get the mower out, set the blades to max height and blow the snow off. Works great.
Deep freeze is full.
Got 2 cases of bottles water, plus 5 gallon jugs for the dogs and cats.

Only thing that bothers me is that my wife works this weekend and she'll be at the hospital when all this hits. We've been through this many times before. She takes extra clothes, snacks, basically just packs like she's going on a 2 day vacation and the hospital has rooms for them to sleep in. I'll get her to drive my Tacoma and it has 4 wheel drive, so she should be fine. It's not quite 10 miles from here, but if she doesn't want to risk it, at least she'll be safe and comfortable.

We are in the snow/ice/freezing rain belt. As long as we don't lose power, we will be fine.

We ordered a couple of battery backups and 2 space heaters, and at least we should be able to put the perishables and frozen stuff outside in a cooler. The gas oven is a blessing when the power goes out

Its our first weather situation with Mom, haha, she should be fine as long as we can get episodes of Law and Order for her to watch.

lay a tarp on your front and back porch, steps, and walkways, before the weather hits, and just slide it off after the snow/ice
