I love Australia BTW, would love to visit, it seems like a fascinating place, filled with people of amazing character and heart. The dozen or so I've met were warm, friendly, intelligent, and knowledgeable about the world.

Same here.
My neighbor is from Australia and is an amazing human.

Their problems stem from going woke with climate change ridiculousness.
You can’t transition from coal and oil until you can securely replace them with other reliable energy sources.
You’ll end up screwed like California has screwed themselves.

Yeah, that would be my perception from my chair, many thousands of miles kilometers away.

I have no idea how beholden they are to their King...

There were 222 countries with less money, less technology and some of them fairly primitive socially and politically, who outperformed the USA in protecting their citizens. The implications of the results are obvious.

Do a little study on historical US Isolationism, and its effectiveness. The USA tried it several times. None of them went well. Of course MAGA and Trump have not studied economics or history.

could it be possible that these places that are lesser in all the categories you listed be a place that no one wants to travel to and is better isolated for its lack of business

Do you have a link for this data? I will look into historical U.S Isolationism, thank you!

Petrol stations out of fuel confirmed
#56
In looking at the trend lines of global events, Covid started in Wuhan November 2019, took about 2-3 months until the government started distancing and lock downs for it. We are at day 30 of this war and shut down of Middle East oil.

Still some in the supply chain and reserves around. Singapore uses a lot of Middle East oil for its processing.

For now high fuel prices are reducing demand, diesel up nearly 100%, petrol a bit cheaper. While 932 petrol stations are currently dry. The next 30 days appears generally manageable to keep the main cities going. Currently some minor reduction in road traffic, still a lot of people and industry moving around.

As for how things go after another 30 days? Depends on what turns up or shuts down in the mean time. Officially we are at level 2 restrictions, where individual self determination is used to limit fuel use. If/when things get worst with level 3, state rationing and restrictions are implemented. The government could do this at anytime, tomorrow, 6 months?

Hes on another planet and has no grasp of reality. If he watched an episode of Outback Truckers he would know there would be a snowballs chance in hell that a EV truck would last 5 minutes driving in the conditions this country demands. Maybe courier vehicles in the city but I cant see a EV truck driving a thousand kms out to a remote property towing 5 trailers.

This also going to continue driving prices up around the globe, with some unscrupulous companies 'profiteering' from the situation

I like to get my information from those experts who would understand the subject in all its details.  A couple of days ago there was an annual meeting of the world's oil companies CEOs in Houston (CERAWeek 2026).  Here are some examples of what they think:
  • Chevron CEO Mike Wirth: Stated the oil futures market is trading on "scant information" and has not fully reflected the physical reality of the supply disruption.
  • Aramco CEO Amin Nasser: Called it the "biggest crisis the region's oil and gas industry has faced," warning of "catastrophic consequences" for global oil markets.
  • Kuwait Petroleum Corp CEO Sheikh Nawaf al-Sabah: Described the situation as an "economic blockade," warning it will cause a domino effect throughout the global economy.
  • TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanne: Warned that if the crisis lasts more than three to four months, it will become a systemic problem for the world.
  • Shell CEO Wael Sawan: Highlighted that the disruption in shipping has moved from South Asia into Southeast Asia and Europe.
  • API CEO Mike Sommers: Labeled the situation a "nightmare scenario for world energy,"....
“This is an attack not only against the Gulf, but it is an attack that is holding the world’s economy hostage,” [Sheikh Nawaf] al-Sabah told conference. The CEO warned that the war will have a “domino effect” across the global economy.“The costs of this war don’t stay within geographical lines in this region,” al-Sabah said. “They extend all the way through supply chain.”

Meanwhile: "On multiple occasions this month, Trump has claimed “nobody” had expected Iran to attack its Persian Gulf neighbors after it was attacked by the US and Israel. “Nobody ever thought they’d be shot at,” he said of Gulf countries on Thursday. “Nobody was even thinking about it,” he  said Monday. “Nobody, nobody, no, no, no. No, the greatest experts — nobody thought they were going to hit,” he said last week."

In reality, various experts had not only thought but publicly predicted that Iran would retaliate by striking countries in the region. Iranian officials had themselves said this was their plan."
