But the Christians aren't always free to be Christians.
Look at Saudi Arabia.
Also ... Israel is a refuge for gay/bi Muslims from Muslim countries/areas.
And yet we support Saudi Arabia, even after we protected them by keeping a chapter out of the 9/11 commission related to them.
Maybe Israel is more inviting of Christians and gay people. That still doesn’t change my other points, or justify why we should call them our closest ally. They’ve done nothing to prove they’re our closest ally.
The UK has proven to be far more of an ally when the going gets tough. We have more of a history with them, and even more of a diaspora of English lineage here… so more of a connection so to speak at an ethnic level.
I wish the best for Israel. Jews have gone through a lot of trials and tribulations in recent history. The US has the 2nd most amount of Jews outside of Israel, many of them prosper here. We helped create Israel and see them through their nations infancy. All that said, we have no treaties with them, they’ve taken the most aid of any country from the US, and their nation is younger than our president. I don’t see why we need to involve ourselves directly in their foreign policy, to the extent we’re literally putting a third of our navy there to shield them from aggression they seek.
Our nation has debt that will take generations to pay off, and their Middle East is no longer vital to our interests. It’s time we let the Middle East govern and figure out their own affairs.
