You would be surprised! But if they start to get feisty, one just explains how bolshevism suborned both capitalist and marxist linguistics constructs in their efforts to undermine national socialism. That usually quiets them down and brings them back to reason.

You follow each individual line of reasoning and find each confrontation relies on your own ability to navigate "feelings."

Someone disagrees..., the stereotypical response is powered by giving a damn. You could always not care and close the door, giving no F's.  But admit the result of that.... is always nothing.

Apparently the disagreement is fundamentally triggering....
perhaps it has the weight of an impudent child's pouting.

We each have to contend with what aggravates us... alone.
I would suggest separating the anger from it's reason.
I wish I could respond to the authors second volley...
it is a compelling list...

... thank you AnAlternateOpinion... I have that to look forward to tomorrow.

They wouldn't be an extremist?

Would you want someone living next door to you or your family that holds those beliefs?

Well checking the boxes is up the subjectivity of the accuser. And yes, I do think its normal with such a broadly defined list like that.

A scapegoat can be made of me for any one of those.

So I'll just answer as to how they apply, add my unfiltered views, and reverse the question as to whether or not i should qualify.
Quote:
  • anti-Americanism - Depends on the bias of the accuser
  • anti-capitalism, I think tariffs and protectionism (deglobalization) goes against the tenets of free market capitalism
  • anti-Christianity, Only when im personally forced to acknowledge it against my will. Or Ask again when saying "so help me god" in court is compulsory.
  • support for the overthrow of the United States Government, You mean like storming a building or something? Joking aside, I cling to the constitution with the ACLU.
  • extremism on migration, I supported Biden's "Instasylum," and the "open borders" which Europe is now lambasted for. I dont like the current version employed by The DHS and side with most politicians in my state in their approach and opposition to it.
  • extremism on race, So if I say the USA should keep acknowledging its history of racial superiority, sexism, ethnic cleaning, and imperialism, does that make me extreme, or just a CRT supporter? And does supporting that alone make me extreme?
  • extremism on gender Oh get the hell over it, obsessed weirdos. It's an indoctrinated phobia. Like brainworms. I think people can just deal with others identifying as a gender different than the one assigned at birth. Or ignore them. Plus I've seen a 5' 2" Mexican girl hit a foul ball into the dugout that sent a 6' 1" amazon girl to The ICU. So I cant even buy the "beating up on girls" transathletes part of it.
  • hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on family,  Whats traditional? One Man/One Women, 2.3 Children, picket fence? Nothing against it, I just never want any part of it myself. And I reserve the right to use the term "breeding" for its subcultural reference. Thats about as hostile as it gets though.
  • hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on religion, and
  • hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on morality. Once again, nothing against the traditional nuclear family. Nothing against evangelical christianity. Be happy. Love is love.

But they are not my red words, and hostility can ONLY arise if the traditional morality (such as being forced to uphold evangelical views on gender or sexuality) is made mandatory. Again, return to this question when a time comes I cant order occulty stuff on Etsy, get married, lose self-determination, or Americans are forced to acknowledge god in court.

So... do you want someone posting on the website you post who holds these beliefs?

Do those views make me extremist?

Every question I asked was a legitimate attempt to get an answer on why we should look the other way on extremism.

Your questions are poorly phrased and aren't really clear as questions. Besides that, you are missing the real point which is what are the criteria and who decides on what is extremist and what isn’t? What might not be considered extremist today might be tomorrow as this whole thing is incredibly subjective and rather arbitrary depending on who is making the rules. That's the scary part.

No one here is condoning, promoting or excusing violent extremism.

Quote:Like I said, I shouldn't have even responded to this drivel.

You should have followed your gut. It would have been less triggering. Let's just hope none of your thoughts get you on a list.

Quote:Dummy me to think real conversations might be had and different viewpoints discussed for a change.

As far as I can tell, you haven’t really offered different opinions or discussion other to whine about “leftists”.

Quote:Now i know why you would make a thread like this......it's because you do check all the boxes of that list.

I was trying to flesh out what might be considered extremist in each of these categories. Have you even given any thought to that or offered your own definitions at all at what might classify as extremist or to counter some of the things I have listed? Not that I can tell when all you want to do is foster more of the us vs them/left vs right bullshit or maybe you just think being persecuted for thought crimes or opinions that differ from yours is a good thing?

To address some of your other points…

Quote:For instance....."fvck everyone’s religion"? Because its all about the "fundamentalists and nationalists”

Don’t like the words I used or my disdain for weaponized religion of any flavor? Tough shit but I clearly hope you recognize my right to have those views but I could be wrong and you are against free speech and thought? The point was not so much my anti-theism but rather the government deciding not being a good little Christian soldier might consider me a potential terrorist threat for not following The Approved American Religion. In this scenario, replace Christianity with Islam and see how you would feel complying if told you were an infidel for thinking outside of the lines.

Quote:Or how about "Is thinking the government should do more to facilitate legal immigration"?

What more can they do? Its been the same for half a century or more...apply for citizenship legally or don't come.

What more can they do? Aw come on now, what bubble are you living in? Do you know hard it is to apply for and be granted citizenship or apply for asylum? Maybe dedicate additional funds and manpower to streamline the application and vetting process so that people actually have a chance to enter the country legally and then maybe you wouldn’t have so many masked thugs pissing people off?

Quote:It's just more of the same hating on people that might be religious that seems to pervade through the Leftists.

I'm not even going to mention your silly 4th of July scenario as it appears to me your conflict resolution skills or "handling it" would only result in some sort of escalation because godammit, you got "Murican flags on your pickum up truck and you're one of the real patriots.

I don’t hate people that are religious, I feel somewhat sorry for them and do my best to keep my distance but I won’t deny that some religions provide an ethical and moral framework for those that aren’t smart enough to figure it out themselves. And yes, I called out Christian nationalists and fundamentalists because I really doubt that Jesus fellow would much appreciate how they have twisted and weaponized his words, their hypocrisy and their trying to force their beliefs down everyone’s throat. This Project 2025 dystopia we're now living through has only one source and what I want to know is where is my freedom FROM religion?

I have never been much of a political person and don’t claim to smart or experienced in these matters and certainly not qualified enough to effectively debate these issues but as things have come knocking at my front door, I’ve unavoidably been left with little choice. I also always considered myself pro-American even when being critical or expressing dissent because that IS The American Way. It appears now that even these freedoms are in jeopardy and open for interpretation but as a well conditioned boomer, I still have some love for my country in spite of feeling threatened by it and wholly embarrassed by it.

I think you are missing two things:
1 - they do not have the "check all the boxes", one is enough;
2 - extreme opinions are not a sure sign of extreme actions.

If any one of those subjective "indicia" are enough to be a target of (at least) an investigation then the US is on the right way to become what it used to fight against.

Oh, and did you noticed that they do not talk about violence, they talk about "hostility", another subjective word.

Personally, I don't like it, but I'm not in the US. Smile

I would say give that a qualified yes, it gives the right wing radicals a pass. It's like this sentence, "There are common recurrent motivations and indicia uniting this pattern of violent and terroristic activities under the umbrella of self-described “anti-fascism.” Pro fascism is not the intended target.

"support for the overthrow of the United States Government": There is this persistent theme among the 2nd Amendment crowd that citizens must be armed to overthrow a future tyrannical government. I seriously doubt that NRA or other similar lobbyists for arms manufacturers will be investigated by the Feds. The right wing "citizen militias" will probably be given a pass.

If there were a left wing "citizen militia" I wouldn't want to dox them, 'cuz doxxing is listed as a violent tactic.

"These movements portray foundational American principles (e.g., support for law enforcement and border control) "  Sort of an odd list of foundational principles. We usually think of things like "no kings" or "right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness" as foundational. After bill of rights we think of free speech, assembly, petition for redress, separation of church and state.

As far as I can tell, that border control thing started about 1882 with the Chinese Exclusion Act which:
  • Restricted immigration of Chinese laborers for 10 years and provided for the deportation of those whom immigrated in violation of the Act.
  • Prohibited Chinese naturalization.
  • The Act was "a response to racism [in America] and to anxiety about threats from cheap labor [from China]."
with still no restriction at all for white immigration. So not exactly foundational.

Funny thing about that 1st Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, ... etc. But if the majority of Congress cedes power to a unitary President, and SCOTUS gives free pass for that unitary Prez, then there's nothing to stop the Prez from declaring an official national religion, or infringing free speech, or assembly.

Quotes from: NATIONAL SECURITY PRESIDENTIAL MEMORANDUM: NSPM-7

[note: I'm getting tired so, I'll pick this thing apart later or not depending on things ]
There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people. - Commander William Adama

So, with Zuckerberg’s Meta/Facebook and Musk’s X/Twitter already long on-board, now you’ve got the TikToc algorithm in the hands of Oracle’s Larry Ellison & Netanyahu’s data center in Israel all conveniently feeding wackjob Peter Thiel’s Palantir everything you say or have ever said. Not that this is anything new but with this increased AI scrutiny and a yummy new list of disallowed list of things you say and think, you’d best mind your Ps and Qs or the man be knocking on your door.

Now you’ve also got YouTube opening back up to all the de-platformed loonies and you just know they’re going rile people up to use this as a honeypot.

I think if I was a user of the TikTok platform, at this point in time I’d feel safer having my data going to China?
