As predicted, an amendment passed last week to protect children by ensuring that anonymizing VPN services must follow proper identity verification procedures.
What's wrong with that?
There are some nasty sites out there promoting suicide and stuff.

Many websites are now geoblocking UK users completely, such as Imgur. That seems to be the reasonable thing to do. Right now, VPNs are the only way around that. But now those will likely simply stop service to the UK, too. Which is fine, I guess. As I think we've discussed here, DI may also have to comply, as it allows direct user-to-user interactions via forums and private messages (read the text of the act). Although I think it's 'small fish', I'd hate to see this place lose international users if that's what the law is going to require, because although it is not my call I don't think the administration or users here are going to like the idea of requiring government-conforming ID from everyone.

Although if things do go that far, and DI has to identify each user's country of origin in order to selectively enforce legal identity verification requirements, an upside would be that we could display a little flag icon next to everyone's avatar, so it could be known what context others are perceiving events from. It might help reduce misunderstanding. On the other hand, it could increase toxic polarization (if such a thing is even possible at this point).

Prove you are not 12 years old, sir.
Objectively achievable only though trusted (read: government approved) identity verification.

My kid had an online business at 11 years old.
Creator of Minecraft started programming at age 7 — created his first game at 8.
How much do we really want to block kids?

Yesterday, somebody here posted a video link to Bitchute. Guess what? UK is now blocked! I was on it the day before!
I'm no techie, but according to their rather lengthy front page apologising to UK'ers, we can somehow up load videos for everyone else in the world to see, but UK'ers wont be!!!
Make it make sense.
