They asserted that he was incurring losses of 40 million annually, yet they only decided to terminate him now? This follows his remarks about Trump and the parent company's negotiations being a significant bribe? Any association with Trump raises immediate concerns; he is arguably the most corrupt individual to have ever held office. I am convinced that Trump influenced the negotiations and ensured that the cancellation of Colbert's show was included. The Late Show With Stephen Colbert consistently ranked first in ratings for CBS. However, they continue to retain other shows that perform worse in terms of ratings?

They're hacks for people who can't stomach The View.

Lol i probably wouldnt watch the view if i had a gun to my head and I can tolerate little clips of shows like colbert or stewart but not full on episodes its just not my cup of tea. I like action! If I watch a comedy its usually a movie or some kind of stupid cartoon. Or a show like Resident Alien! That show is the funniest show I have ever seen! I recommend everyone watch resident alien for at least 5 episodes and tell me its not good. I dont usually laugh out loud but that show i laughed hard.

Now tell us how you felt about the Biden administration

Yeah, the format is changing.

That's simply an undeniable fact.

The way people consume and assimilate news is rapidly changing due to digital technology and social media.

With traditional formats like newspapers and evening broadcasts going the way of the dinosaurs.

The show has continued to lose money since 2018. There's a limit to how much loss a company will absorb.

Americans used to religiously turn on Johnny Carson or Jay Leno before bed, but nowadays many fans prefer to watch quick clips on social media at their convenience. Advertising revenue for Colbert's show has dropped 40% since 2018 - the financial reality that CBS said prompted the decision to end “The Late Show” in May 2026.
One former TV network executive said the program was a casualty of the fading economics of broadcast television.
Fifteen years ago, a popular late-night show like “The Tonight Show” could earn $100 million a year, the executive said. Recently, though, “The Late Show” has been losing $40 million a year, said a person briefed on the matter.
The show's ad revenue plummeted to $70.2 million last year from $121.1 million in 2018, according to ad tracking firm Guideline. Ratings for Colbert’s show peaked at 3.1 million viewers on average during the 2017-18 season, according to Nielsen data.

I challenge anyone to tell me the name of a show on that network that they continue to make, even when it shows massive losses.

Colbert's show was #1 money maker for that network but paying The Don $16M (or was it $20M with interest applied?) helped the losses along just the quicker and they settled quickly because they wanted it to stop quickly. Capitulation is what's it's called. Business survival is what's it's called too.

Yes yes, Trump made sure nobody tuned in and therefore CBS was losing 40 mil a year, mostly during Bidens presidency. Sure Jan.

Do you find it a coincidence that CBS been losing 40 mil a year since the beginning of Bidens term and just now finally cut the show when the government stopped giving them money?

I don't think "money maker" means what you think it means.

He has lost 40% of his advertising revenue and costing the company $40 million a year.
How is that a money maker ?

"Wieser said he does not know whether Colbert's show is profitable or not for CBS and parent company Paramount Global, but he knows the direction in which it is headed. “The economics of television are weak,” he said."

Did money or politics cause Colbert cancellation? Either way, the economics are tough for TV

It appears people are turning to other social media than watching TV shows, so it's not just one show like Colbert's, it's many factors.

"On Friday, the Writers Guild of America called for an investigation by New York's attorney general into whether Colbert's cancellation is itself a bribe, “sacrificing free speech to curry favor with the Trump administration as the company looks for merger approval.”"

If audiences are turning to other forms of social media, there then goes the advertising, there then goes the money.

Trump's $16 or $20 Million settlement may have been the nail in the coffin.

Colbert is a talentless overpaid partisan bloviating hatemonger who lost 40 million dollars a year.

Now the moron is whining that he's cancelled because of Donald Trump.

Absurd.   He did it to himself.
