I find it telling that initially, from his earlier utterances, he was apparently firmly entrenched into the idea that those organizations and interests behind the military industrial complex would do anything they could to engender and cultivate a prevailing sense of fear around this subject, especially from a 'defense' perspective.

Now even he is alleged to be saying things that engender that very same fear.
