(02-14-2025, 12:02 AM)Byrd Wrote: I expect to see a decline in longevity in the United States, even as longevity rises in other countries.  We're already behind the rest of the first world nations ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK62576/) and maternal mortality rate is high as well.  More women die in childbirth in the United States than in most European countries (https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publica...-countries)

Maternal mortality among non-Caucasians is high in red states and Texas is worst of all (gee, thanks, Gubn'r Goodhair) https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-...e-by-state

It will get higher still.

Not a good time to be a woman of childbearing age in the US.

I'm absolutely terrified of child birth and that's one of the reasons. The beauty never overode the fear of the expected horrid pain and discomfort.

And now I'm over 40 and the kid would have autism for sure, and maybe even down's syndrome. Even though the ticking bio clock has caused some reconsideration and weird behavior with pets.

I wasn't thinking about maternal fatalities specifically but I'm definitely thinking of funding for reproductive care. Annuals are at planned parenthood too. Almost half of all women need financial aid with their care. Not every woman can afford the costs of even the PAP and birth control, if taken. And Trump threatens the double edge sword of eliminating both the ACA and funding for Planned Parenthood and reproductive care. Who does way more than abortion procedures, which is only 3% of their visits, according to them.

It's gonna be on the state to help on healthcare appears. It doesn't surprise me that Texas has the highest occurance for those state reasons.

And because RFK Jr. is insane The CDC's New website will have a section explaining how to use radium in place of contraception.

He also doesn't believe in drugs to control things like depression (https://www.motherjones.com/politics/202...shootings/)  For anyone taking these life-saving medications (like my husband), this is very troubling news.  This will put the meds out of reach of a lot of folks, including military veterans suffering from PTSD.

We may see underground pipelines for these drugs from Canada and from Mexico (if they're not banned, a number of these will be hit by tariffs, since we import a lot of our drugs.)  If you or someone you know is on these, it might be wise to build up a little stockpile of them.

Let's see how long the unvaccinated "give hugs" borderline Christian Science method lasts?

It is part of the fight against big pharma. DSM and big pharma invent mood disorders to give kids antidepressants. It's a scam...

And while that is honestly largely true, it's another case of non-nuanced all or nothing blanket axing of ideas again.

They definitely overdosed children on SSRIs, which works the wrong way in many children. The ones that don't need it can become suicidal on some of these.

RFK Jr. doesn't even know how to attack that. He won't. I don't think he comes with actual solutions.

To go after big pharma and the unnecessary diagnoses just MAKE INCENTIVIZING DOCTORS TO PRESCRIBE THE HOT DRUG REP'S NEW MEDICATION ILLEGAL. Stop the gifts from drug makers to doctors for prescribing their medication. That's what leads to false diagnosis and unnecessarily medicated children, adults, and the industry pushing dicey drugs unchecked.

RFK Jr. isn't thinking about the war broken rifleman and his future of substance abuse, or actual benefits, he's thinking about saving the children before they become adults that break.

And those poor teachers assuming the ADD drugs fall out of fashion as well.

Moderator note:

[Opinions are mine.]

I can't help but notice how important this conversation might be.

Yes there are many ways to approach this dialogue, but as an organic thing, it is full of important comments and valuable lessons about what some call 'political' discussion.

No, there is no one 'right' way to discuss politics, some of us focus on the façade represented by the celebrity, some peek into the other façade.... the one 'underneath' the celebrity production.  That path doesn't end there... so the horizon of the talk is as of yet indistinct...

Participants provide the heat of the discussion, pointing to things illuminated by the topic, expanding the contours of the subject.

In all this... I think you have been sincere with one another, and I just wanted to say... thank you.

I absolutely agree with you but not with all drugs, but quite a few that are proven to do more harm than good.
