Snickers... how they're made

With the approach of Halloween, I found this calling out to me...

Subtitled: How the airy nougat and chewy caramel is built.

Let’s look at the elements of a Snickers bar as an example of candy science. As with almost everything, once you get into it, each component is more complex than you might think.

One of my favourites. When I went to the UK in the late 70s, they were called Marathon, but reverted back to Snickers around the 90s.

I still like to cut them up into slices... easier to eat with my wonky teeth.

I used to freeze mine, no more... teeth complain too much!  Biggrin

I've never seen a 100 calorie size... but then, where I live there probably isn't a market for them.

Yes, I've known people who gum Snickers, gently suckling until they end up with only the nuts in their mouth. These are the same people, I imagine, who methodically dismantle Kit-Kats with their tongue, first licking off the chocolate and then carefully teasing apart with their teeth, devouring layer by layer.

It all seems a little odd to me, but as I said, no judgment.

Before I got chronically ill and stopped being able to eat gluten, and had to cut out the processed sugars ...

Do you want to count Marshmallow Peeps as candy?   If so ... I like to cut open the package and leave them for a couple of days before eating them.  That way the sugar coating gets hard.  Some people like them frozen.   I like to have them in hot chocolate as well.   Or melt down a tobblerone chocolate bar with milk, then dip the peep into the melted chocolate.  MMMMMMM

I used to gently remove the chocolate around Ferrero Rochers, leaving just the wafer shell and filling...like stripping Earth of its crust and mantle. 

No wonder they tasted weird.

I can't do the sugar anymore .... but I LOVED peeps!

I read stuff on how people ate them different ways.
Some wild stuff.
I liked mine in  hot chocolate.
I also liked them stale.   Yes, stale.
I liked the sugar coating hard.
Apparently I'm not alone in that. 
Lots of people do.

There used to be a candy with a wafer shell that melted in your mouth and left a hard little candy to suck on.    They were like flying saucers.  "Satellite Wafers".  The melting paper thin wafer shell would be different colors and different flavors.

I LOVED THEM!

They are impossible to find except in old country stores ... and online of course.
