Do Spoken Words Have Metaphysical Power?
#1
Do Spoken Words Have Metaphysical Power?
Or is thinking that they do just superstition?

Example

- If you say to someone who is sick ... the disease you have will mean that you are going to end up using a walker .. do your words have the power to make it more likely to happen?

Another example

- If a lot of people all get together and say the same thing to a person  ... you will be cured of the disease that you are suffering from... do your words have the power to make it more likely to happen?

Twice this past week I have heard two very different people say the same thing ... to be careful what you say because your words have power and can make things happen.   (and these are not the new age kind of people who you would expect to hear it from).

I've heard this kind of thing said when I was a kid growing up in Connecticut.
New England has lots of these kinds of old saying.

So do you think there is some kind of metaphysical truth to it?  Or is it superstition?

Or is it the thought process associated with saying the words that has metaphysical power?

You think maybe the words change the thought process of the person, and therefore the energy, and then it's the person who makes the things happen metaphysically and not the words spoken by others?  hmmm ....

Or maybe the person saying the words is getting some kind of "reading" of the other person's energy (for lack of a better word) and so the words are a consequence and not a cause.

Who knows. Smile

Is perhaps other way around and it is metaphysical power that has spoken words.

Reminds me of eastern idea of the "6th" sense being the awareness of mental activity, realizing that chatter of mind-stuff is phenomena, distinct from the consciousness of observer (self). Most confuse themselves with the word stream going on inside, think they're identical, and when that is the case, yes, words have metaphysical power over you. द्रष्टृदृश्योपरक्तं चित्तं सर्वार्थम्

Considering the topic, I would suggest eliminating the physical aspect of it.

In other words, I would think it's not the words themselves...

After all, what we consider words, in their spoken form, they are just a mind moving the air...

The consistent 'sameness' of it is in the thoughts that generate it.  It really doesn't matter what language it is spoken in, the phenomena we are discussing is a personal thought manifesting outwards...

So the real question to me is whether its the receiver of the transmitted 'thought' object, or the sender's 'thought' itself, that is the key element of the phenomenon.

And there is energy and intent behind the words.
So could that have metaphysical effects?
I heard two people say the same thing within a day or so ...
'words have power'.
It was an odd coincidence.

I think it's more the intent behind the words. If you look up Jose Silva, and his Mind Control Method, it is based around things like manifestation, and being connected to a higher inteligence, such that we're all connected, so if enough people have feelings of love and 'prayer' and happines towards someone, that will have a positive effect.
I think this can be shown by examples of people who go into hospitals in a really bad way, for whatever reason, but they have a lot of people and support, praying for them, and sending them well wishes, and love, and they make miraculous recoveries, far beyond and above what is expected by the medical profession involved at the time.  There are plenty of people who've recovered from cancer for example.
If you also look at the English National Anthem, and read the lyrics, and imagine thousands of people singing that song, at a sporting event where the monarch is present, there is a lot of positive emotion, and love and this, in my opinion partly explains the longevity of Queen Elizabeth II (plus also having a shit load of money to pay for the best health care, and best nutritional advice)

I believe thought and the spoken word have power.

One of my favorite books is The game of life and how to play it by Florence Scovel Shinn.

She writes of this, but also of the karmic repercussions of misuse of it.

The power of prayer works too, I have seen it many times. When I was a playground aide and would see a child by themselves looking lost with their heads down I would pray God please send them a friend, and every time without fail, a couple of kids would break away from the large group of kids and run to the child and get them.

Prayer to God and Jesus has saved my life a couple of times too!
In tune
