Interesting that there is a notion of a beginning of worship, it's actively happening, new religions pop up all the time and it's part of being human. It's also very real to the people involved. RE: What are the gods that humans worship? - Tecate - 10-04-2024 Essentially the book begins with a hunter who captures a woman from another tribe or community. The woman finds a type of grain bearing grass growing in a meadow down by a river. She realizes that if she leaves some grains more will grow for the next season. One season her now fairly large grain field is flooded by the river destroying her crops, so she vows to always give the river a portion of her crop as an offering. This becomes a custom within her family and the community before being adopted and expanded upon to appeasing the gods of the river, the weather, storms etc. I felt that this could be how the concept all came about. Tecate RE: What are the gods that humans worship? - Sirius - 10-04-2024 Wouldn't surprise me if that happened. One could argue she created a tulpa in the form of a river spirit and they are now worshipping it. I don't think it takes away from other stories though. Rivers ,tigers, volcanoes is one thing, something materializing in your bedroom is another. It makes me wonder if it's really a disease or a spiritual being sucking the life out of me. Sorry, but anyway, I think the Gods were mostly aliens, creatures no one has ever seen before......or just some made up deity that someone made up from eating the wrong mushroom or to control a group of people The power of belief though.....there was an episode on supernatural, basically this being was created by someone posting a fake story online and so many people believed it that it came to existence...,..so who knows? Maybe there are God(s), or an afterlife based on what your belief is RE: What are the gods that humans worship? - Creaky - 10-04-2024 (10-04-2024, 10:02 AM)FlyersFan Wrote: Not sure if this metaphysics or paranormal.? Not sure why you would say it goes against Christian theology From what I just read on tulpa, dwelling on thoughts, putting energy into something, not unlike a ouija board can manifest something Further investigation required but I don’t have an issue re “Tulpa” having some kind of real merit think it’s a bit of metaphysic and paranormal issue ………. Ok, so upon further study, no to tulpa and theology inmho Think demons just manifest and pretend they are tupla’ creations when they are in fact imposters we don’t create them, they come in and adapt interesting not heard of tulpa before (10-04-2024, 12:28 PM)Raptured Wrote: Currently, the dollar bill and "stuff" for many. Thinking you are thinking of the Cargo cults after WW2 Little bit different than worshiping a plane Think that comment is the issue re conversations like this Reducing the whole content of a situation down to “worshiping a plane” when the reality is a bit more complex RE: What are the gods that humans worship? - FlyersFan - 10-05-2024 (10-04-2024, 06:34 PM)Creaky Wrote: Not sure why you would say it goes against Christian theology Because according to Christian theology, only God can create sentient life. Spirit boards call forth that which is already created. They don't do the creating. Tulpa are sentient beings that the energy and thoughts of humans create. And that's against Christian theology, that humans could create sentient beings. ANd no, we do not create the soul of the baby that we 'make'. Biologically our bodies do, but the soul is created by God according to Christianity. RE: What are the gods that humans worship? - Maxmars - 10-05-2024 Christian institutions chafe against the idea that humans can create a thoughtform and animate it. They interpret biblical text to 'proscribe' some knowledge of this type outright. Ironically, telling me that something is forbidden knowledge leads me to ask "Do YOU know it?" Which is never a welcome question. The answer self-damns... If they know the knowledge they are damning... well then why aren't you damned? (and should I take advice from a damned person?) If they don't know, how can they possibly proscribe it? It's like telling someone to "stop learning"... that can never happen. I'm starting to think that (in this context) a "soul" isn't a thing... it's an event. (How's that for "I've been up for 32 hours?"...) Something I've considered recently is that it's all just a form of collective consciousness. It's possible we created gods and everything else we apply celestial or paranormal activity to but there's clearly a sense that these things are real, at least to some anyway. Like watching a highly choreographed dance with absolutely no knowledge of dancing and thinking "how in the hell do they do that?!" Well, they developed it... It's just how we manifest thought and emotions. How would a collective consciousness manifest within individuals? Think about it, we're basically singularities and modern society would say that any outside link is highly abnormal and must be treated. I can't necessarily disagree with that either because aberrant thoughts and emotions are going to wreck havoc onto an individual. It's going to manifest as paranormal. Depending on the nature of thought it might even manifest as divine. It might be dismissive of me to say it's all just stuff our species (and others?) developed in the noosphere but I'd personally find it magical. It means it's all possible and everything we've achieved so far whether it be physical, mental, emotional, spiritual etc etc is literally down to us. It's why old pantheons and faith systems can almost make sense to me because the things they created are beautifully accessible via perceptive development. As if the reflection of 1000's before created the image of you. Some might find such sentiments lonely... Yet I find cruelty in the whole "not in my image" approach since we're all the same and dancing the same dance. With two left feet we'll just fly like dodos wouldn't you think? |
