Agreed. Apart from the prebiotic precursors to life which would be primordial sludge, I think we're very much alone in this universe and if we could travel to the exoplanets in our galaxy we'd find bizarre worlds not conducive to life. 

The ocean planets are a different matter of course but I still don't think we'll find complex organisms even on them.

I have always fancied the tic tac was released from the sub attached to the flotilla. The disturbance in the water described by Fravor was suggestive of that.

exactly what i suggested. The 'attached' part was me meaning a beam of exotic qualities...not something physically tethered.

I think Fravor was sent out to that rendezvous point not knowing the sub was there. The sub released something we already have and Fravor was sent out on a sort of blind test for whatever reason. 

I don't really go for your idea of an exotic beam or aliens. I'm more for us having advanced tech and aliens are always the go to cover story.

It all began with Roswell, when the first loose statement about recovering a disc to cover the Mogul spy balloon took off and settled down to become what we have now. It's nice, convenient and keeps everyone happy.

it was a large patch of 'disturbance' on the water and tic tac moving above it was not the size of a tennis ball.
What kind of a sub would cause such a disturbance? it would have to be large.
And tic tacs were the size of F-16.

I don't know anything about balloons. My use of the word 'released' was perhaps unfortunate. I fancy the tic tac came from the sub that's all.
