Words of Wisdom from St. Teresa of Avila
#1
My Confirmation saint - St. Teresa of Avila.
Born in 1515.
Died for three days from an illness and came back miraculously.
Then died for good in 1582.
Many miracles are associated with her both in life and in death.
She reformed the Carmelite order in the Catholic church.
It had grown lax and worldly.
She and St. John of the Cross revived it and wrote many spiritual works.

The famous words from St. Teresa of Avila -

“Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.”

So .... what do you think of her most famous words of advice?

Keep it polite ... no religion wars ... what do you think of the advice?

I was Third Order Carmelite for many years and am familiar with her writings.  My husband still is Third Order Carmelite.   We try to keep these words in mind.  My husband does a good job.  Me?  Not so much.  I worry about everything, especially the suffering that comes with illness' and with potential money problems as we get older and the income drops.

And another favorite of mine ... St. Padre Pio.
Born 1887.  Died 1968.
Stigmatist with many mystical gifts.
Spent his life in Italy.
Many miracles attributed to him in life and after death.

Some more advice in the area of worrying.
His most famous quote -

Pray, Hope and dont' worry.  Anxiety doesn't help at all.  Our merciful Lord will listen to your prayer.

Her quote -

The Unexpected Humor of St. Teresa of Avila

Quote:“A sad nun is a bad nun … I am more afraid of one unhappy sister than a crowd of evil spirits … What would happen if we hid what little sense of humor we had? Let each of us humbly use this to cheer others.”

I love Padre Pio!!  He certainly was wise in the ways of God.

“Let us always keep in mind that we are on a battlefield on earth, and our true homeland is Heaven.”

Blessed Solanus Casey is another of my favorites.   He is currently on the path to Canonization.

“Worry is a weakness from which very few of us are entirely free. We must be on guard against this most insidious enemy of our peace of soul. Instead, let us foster confidence in God, and thank Him ahead of time for whatever He chooses to send us.”

One of my favorite quotes from Dali Lama I find very profound.

Quote: “What surprises me most is “Man” because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he doesn’t enjoy the present; The result being he doesn’t live in the present or the future; He lives as if he’s never going to die, and then he dies having never really lived.”
