Wow TSK!

I had never heard of these before now, and I think for Kruger Wildlife Refuge it’s a fantastic idea.

I see both sides of the argument for and against their use in urban environments, but if I heard correctly up to 89% failure rate in correct identification of actual gunshots seems pretty high for the money involved….

I am interested now...

I saw a dot near me. I thought they'd all be in the gang neighborhoods. All almost exclusively on UCSD property. All area patrolled by UCSD Police. All over campus, and in the student housing areas across the freeway. Looks like every major Residence Hall. And more down at the Scripps Oceanography Institute. A high conce station there.

If they are meant to detect gunshot why are they wasting all of them at UCSD? There's no gun violence there at all. No gun shots period.. But there are a SHIT TON of Chinese Nationals on Student Visas. Around 5,200 in 2020, well above that now, since the Supreme Court ruled against affirmative action anyway. Possible near 7,000 in 2024.

[Notes* - Campus to left of Freeway, Student Housing and Medical Center to right. Lower left is Scripps.]

Are these honestly for gunshots. Can't be for gunfire there. Are they listening to marine life? Are they good enough to pick up the Mandarin much of the student body speaks?

Something is not right. At least with the placement of ours.
