I have researched the whole Shadow People phenomena for decades now, and in the last few year people don't want to talk about them as much. Quite frankly, with the exception being the two years of that lockdown, I just don't get as many calls to come check things out as much. People are either being oblivious to the events, not interested in knowing what's going on, or have become afraid to discuss these things.
The fake or joke ghost hunters, yes some people do still do them in a serious fashion but you know what I mean, don't make things any easier. I can't tell you how many times I've talked to some one that had a "Professional Ghost Hunter" tell them that the Shadow Person was a demonic entity and that they should fear for their life over seeing it. When in reality the Shadow being seems almost benign in nature, and the event just passes on without incident.
So these events do still happen, but it's just harder to get people to talk about them it seems.
Yeah those ghost hunter shows, I know some of those people in real life, have really put a bad rap on those of us who do it seriously.
What's sad is that they do have legit research teams but camp it up for the show, nobody does that stuff in real life while investigating something.
They act scared when in actuality any little bump in the night is a welcome break from the pure boredom of researching a haunting.
Also, nobody talks during a ghost hunt except for the designated leader of the team trying to lure whatever it is out. You certainly don't hold the camera going, "Oh My God, what is that!"
I still get lots of calls to come debunk stuff though but I have a lot of references that pass my name around. The new teams probably struggle a lot more.

Agreed - I think the worst thing to happen was the decline of Travel Channel. Seems like the investigators that legit wanted to help, research, and aid the actual spirits of the deceased who may need help all left the network. Bagans gets on and slowly it just got worse.
There was an episode of Ghost Adventures way back in the day where they pointed a FLIR at a psychic medium - The FLIR started doing this insane rainbow effect. I still don't know if that was legit, but back then I thought that was going to be the turning point, where so much more about the unseen world and consciousness is explored.
Instead, it's midlife crisis Ovulius random word salad and spirit boxes while screaming at each other through M95 masks and saying everything is a demon.
If you have some specific suggestions about websites, podcasts or videos where non-dramatic serious research is done, I'd love to know. The oversaturation of content makes it difficult to find anything in the topic.

They left.
They are still as active as ever but with our technology now, especially in filmmaking, people are less likely to report it.
Social media also plays a big role as people don't want to be labled as mentally ill or what have you by saying they've seen something paranormal.
So even if you have video of something people will say you created it to get likes or to increase your internet popularity, or to feel special or any number of things.
But as someone who does investigate these, I can tell you that I have been getting a lot more calls than in the past. More so from business establishments than individuals though, something that is so frequent that employees are complaining about it and it can't be tossed under the rug.
This happened with the UFO situation also where the popularity seemed to go down in the 80's and 90's but actual sightings didn't, just the reporting of it.
