But there is something to be said for the surfacy "California multiculturalism" of food, music, and apparel. It's basic, yes, but finding something to appreciate in each other is a first step. The path to common ground begins with admitting that, in fact, there may actually be common ground.

The act of making the meal itself, this kindness can make them smile. Its not always about the food.
