Western Australian fishing ban

By stating the simple known and proven fact China has the largest fishing fleet in the world.  Out fishes the next two largest fishing countries combined by several tons.  That China under reports.  That China has depleted their own seas.  China Illegally claims large areas of the South China Sea.  Destroys bottom habitats for fish with their fishing techniques.  Harasses and is aggressive against other countries fishing vessels.  Encroaches on other countries local waters.  And China aggressively disobeys fishing bans and protections for fish populations.

That is not the reason why the demersal fishing was banned on the NW coast of Australia. You are off topic. Go start your own China overfishing thread.

The Vietnamese fishing is a pimple compared to China with its vastly larger fishing fleets and its aggressivmess.

It doesn’t help when China takes unsustainable fishing to the next higher magnitude with their vastly larger fishing fleet and ultra aggressive and destructive fishing operations.

Show me evidence that Chinese fishing vessels and overfishing are the cause of NW Australia's demersal population decline when this fish is not migratory.

We don’t have any serious issues with Asian countries fishing our waters, we have a pretty good coastguard.
This is a ban outlawing demersal fishing in all Western Australian waters and it is damaging to local fishing.
And no, I don’t believe the statistics offered by the government, far to many stories

Not sure why but, I think it’s more sinister than that

I am reading this report and it's not sinister it's downright troubling because of all the other complex issues plaguing fish stocks.

It's obvious you have nothing of value to offer because all you can do to come out of your woodwork is to insult and attack others. You need to reflect so you get outside and get off the internet

Now are there any members here who want to discuss NW Australia's failure at fishery management? If not, I will not bother engaging on this thread further.

it’s not just the NW fishing it’s all of Western Australia
We have good fish stocks, we really do. Our fishing industry is well managed and well protected, it’s not like it hasn’t been managed thoroughly in the past 40 years I can remember
A commercial fisherman I knew about 15 years ago was caught illegally fishing, selling his catch privately, making cash and ended up in the grave rather than face the consequences of his actions. It was a highly regulated industry now completely shutdown

Seems strange
China, Vietnam are no threat to our local industry, they operate in international waters around here not local waters

It’s not hard to look up..

It’s not hard to figure out that China’s aggressive encroaching fishing tactics directly and indirectly hurts Australia and the ocean has a whole.

As quoted for you already

“For this example, we use the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC) global fishing fleet. China’s global fishing footprint could number as many as 57,000 industrial fishing vessels and account for more than 44 per cent of the world’s visible fishing activity between 2022 and 2024, according to non-profit ocean conservation organisation Oceana. To legally station such a civilian armada off Australia’s northern approaches or even along its coastal areas could have profound consequences for the economy and even Australia’s national spirit, which is tied to the fishing ecosystem, beaches and national icons, such as the Great Barrier Reef.”

That’s the problem, why everyone is disgusted, it’s not true
It’s false, why is our government lying and forcing total costal bans on demersal fishing in WA
I just find it really strange.

So ask the fishermen if the demersal fish they were catching were younger/smaller and harder to find when the ban was not in place. I'm curious to know because those are the warning signs of depletion.
