Vladimir Putin 'spits in Trump's face'

Quote:Vladimir Putin 'spits in Trump's face' as he trashes Ukraine peace deal – and UK will pay.

Vladimir Putin has chosen to maintain his "hybrid war" with the West by trashing any chance of peace at Donald Trump's peace talks and now NATO must prepare for further conflict, a foreign policy expert has warned.
The US president sent his special peace envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, his own son-in-law, to hold talks with the Russian President in his latest attempt to bring an end to the war in Ukraine. Those attempts backfired spectacualrly as Putin used the televised meeting to insist: Russia does not intend to fight Europe, but if Europe starts we are ready right now."

There had been hopes Donald Trump may have been able to apply pressure on both Moscow and Kyiv to come to the negotiating table and reach an agreement on ending the fighting, but those hopes have been dashed time and time again.

Professor Anthony Glees, security expert from the University of Buckingham, told the Express that by far "the most chilling" aspect of Trump and Witkoff's latest failed peace talks was the realisation that Putin considers himself completely prepared for all out war with NATO.
He said:"Putin remains entirely confident he can outsmart Trump all the way to victory over Ukraine.
"This is a desperate worry.

"By sending witless Witkoff and his son in law Jared Kushner Trump has played out his last ditch attempt to convince Putin that he can have his slice of Ukraine – if he lets Trump get that coveted Nobel peace prize.
"But Putin in effect spits in Trump’s face and tells him to go to hell. He’s saying he’ll have his own way, end of story.
"We know that Trump will be offended, even distraught. What more can he do other than compel Ukraine to sacrifice itself?

"One way or another, unless we in Europe realise we can’t rely on Trump and we cannot become Putin’s vassals, we will slip into a large scale conventional war.

It certainly appears as though Wiktoff has failed in his attempt to make a deal with the Kremlin. Something most of us knew was going to happen.
Putin has been playing Trump all along, and is only going to be happy in the annihilation of the Ukrainian people and total control. With Witkoff even telling his counterparts how to deal with Trump, they've still been unable to make any head way. Whilst Russian is demanding more and more land in concession for any kind of deal.

I think Trump needs to stop bowing down to Putin's needs and wants.

I must admit that the British press seems to apply a "florid descriptive" twist to a negotiation process.

I suspect their audience is to withhold any discernment...
and allow the "spit in the face" comment to fly as just a "rational" characterization
of something that has to happen in the making of treaties...

"Sides" offer up their wish-lists as 'demands'
they reject each others "wishes" as an offense....
Talking ensues...

While the press creates a narrative... entertaining, narratives...

I mean i actually thought Trump was a lot better equipped for the job of dealing with Mad Vlad than his predecessor.

I wish he would hurry up and prove me right.... Saint2

Nothing to do with the British press.

Putin's and the Kremlin's own words speak for themselves.

It's bleedin' obvious.

Well in the same paper they also have this story....
Quote:Putin on the brink as bombshell poll reveals support for Ukraine war collapsing.

A majority of Russians want an immediate end to the war in Ukraine, a new bombshell poll has revealed. It comes as Vladimir Putin met with Steve Witkoff on Tuesday to try and thrash out a peace deal.
However, the Kremlin said no major breakthrough was achieved, although the talks were described as "constructive". European diplomats insisted that Putin was not interested in peace, as Witkoff returned to the US empty-handed. Putin remains convinced he has the upper hand in Ukraine and can attain his maximalist goals by crushing Kyiv's army, according to many analysts.

A poll was recently carried out for the regional Russian administrations ahead of the 2026 elections.
The result of the survey has reportedly shocked officials, as public support for Putin's war has plummeted. The poll shows 83% of Russians feel fatigued from the war, and 56% want it to end right away, a sharp rise from the previous year.
Support for continuing hostilities has fallen to around 23%, even as the Kremlin insists publicly that national unity remains strong.

So I think Mad Vlads attempts at recreating the fallen USSR empire is starting to have an effect on the Russian people.

A negotiation involves discussion, persuasion, and compromise to resolve differences. I don't think that Putin is interested in any kind of compromise.

I was hoping Trump would be more productive in getting Putin to the table, but I don't think Putin is interested. He just wants to make Trump believe he willing to negotiate.

I don't know... I means we always paint Russia with a very broad brush...

I think that leads to a resentment, as I have yet to find the trope-style Russians media has forced down our throats,
the same kind of applies to other stereotypes which people seem to actually want to adhere to.

I doubt that the "imagery" we are accessing from 'publications' are genuine 'reporting.

The news is always delivered from the most 'profitable' or 'influential' vantage.  Stressing the "opinions" and "positions" of both "authority" and self-proclaimed 'common sense.'  Doesn't matter where it is ... it's all the same.

If Putin had literally "spat" in anyone's face during a negotiation... then we'd have gone full WWE.

And all reason is lost to theatrical performances....
Hey wait,...
That is the media's "story" ... they already have us there.
