Viper down in California
#1
An F-16 went down near Trona, CA, with word being that it's a possible Thunderbirds jet. Might have been #5, one of the solo aircraft. Pilot is out with minor injuries.

Story just broke, updates as I can.

Oh no sad! Happy that he/she ejected!
Be kind to everyone!

I hope the pilot landed safely.

Must be quite the thing having to eject from one of those.

It’s incredibly violent. You lose about half an inch or so temporarily.

The team began their winter practice, and were doing a practice show near Panamint Valley. The jet involved had an issue came up and was attempting to recover to China Lake, which was nearby where they were rehearsing. The aircraft wasn't able to make it, so the pilot did the only thing they could and ejected. China Lake is home to VX-31 which has a Search and Rescue unit, and there were lots of aircraft in the airspace offering assistance if needed, as well as the Thunderbirds that remained over the accident site.

Reportedly locals heard reports of engine problems from the pilot on the scanner.
