That's been the standard playbook for a lot of the wars after WWII. The standard of living will go down for the middle class, and they'll look for escapes like drugs and alcohol, the latter kills far more than the former. All the money spent in Iraq could have been used to rebuild the infrastructure and provide jobs. It could have been used to address rising college costs so people could get educated and good careers. Instead we're still paying interest on it. But sure, let's focus on a country that might produce 5% of the cocaine. And let's hit little speed boats that can't even make it to our shores, they're going to someone else's. And people can say "if you're against this, you support cartels". That's the same logic as people who were against Iraq "you support terrorists". This is all rinse and repeat. They're not even trying hard this time. Most people don't want to get in another war. And if we do get in another war, congress should vote on it, as per the constitution. Using 9/11 terrorist laws is disingenuous to the people, and anti constitutional.

Let's not forget the right and the left supported the war. Some allege McCain ducked a scandal in the USS Forrestal fire. Perhaps gangs prevented him and sailors from testifying until they asked for a favor in return? Hillary supported the war at first. She got her political start in a city which partially identifies as Southern despite having been in the part of Southern Wisconsin which was attached to Illinois in order to keep it from seceding. Then the Bush administration prolonged the violence unnecessarily by dismissing the surrendered Iraqui army which some claim formed the core of the insurrection as well as providing it with weapons caches such as artillery shells repurposed into roadside bombs. It may have been a deliberate pork barrel for militaristic parts of the country.

Quote:We’ve heard this kind of reasoning before...look at Iraq. Two wars were meant to ‘fix’ things and bring stability, and instead the country ended up worse off,Gulf 2 may have been a pork barrel for militaristic parts of the country. It was started on faulty intelligence and may have been deliberately prolonged by releasing the Iraqi army which some say went on to form the core of the insurrection as well as supplying it with weapons from weapons caches they knew about. Many of the roadside bombs were repurposed artillery shells. Bush appointed Paul Bremmer to lead Iraq. The Iraqi army had surrendered and were living in their barracks, clothed, fed, paid, and supervised. Then, he just let them go. The Iraqi economy had probably already taken quite a hit and people would have been out of work and going hungry even if he had not released the army. What could the ex-soldiers then do but take support from people who wanted a war against Americans? Bush claimed he wanted the fighting to take place over there instead of over here, but how many potential terrorists were emboldened by seeing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis die?

Why the fuck is Venezuala our anything?
Its a minimal target of mostly fishing boats for our navy to take target practice on. What comes from South America other than cocaine? And since when in the world of meth do people do THAT anymore? Its not actually still the 80s, you know... He's wagging the tail of that incompetent dog Maduro. A war of nothing but easy posturing and negligible results in drug interdiction. Should we invade Grenada again for the hell of it? I thought it was fentanyl? You know, the shit the Chinese Triads ship to Cartels WELL NORTH OF COLOMBIA into the states and provinces of Sina Loa, Durango, Chihuahua, Sonora, Baja, and even British Columbia. Its not the heroin, fentanyl, nor meth they are focusing on. It's a low value country that has only 30% of a single (less deadly) drug of interest pass through it. I'm sure Mexico and China appreciate the pass, but you're not paying attention if you think Venezuela should be this country top drug target. It's honestly like storming the beaches of Lebanon to fight the Nazis in Normandy... Like, "Okay, but you might wanna try fighting the ACTUAL gangs bringing in the deadly drugs at some point."
