It is actually pretty simple to determine who the bad guys are as they are almost always the ones starting the mayhem and doing the killings. 

This Islamist or the Communists are bound and determined to bestow the "blessings" of their chosen mode of slavery on to their victims, by force if necessary.
My experience is most humans do not want to be enslaved, therefore they resist until force by TPTB becomes necessary to bestow the "blessings" of slavery upon all who will not bend a knee.
