This is the maximum the FDA SHOULD have approved from the get-go.... Especially after the initial rollout

Quote:The Food and Drug Administration unveiled plans Tuesday to narrow its approval for updated coronavirus vaccines to older adults and people with at least one health condition that puts them at high risk for severe disease, marking a significant shift in the agency’s approach to green-lighting the shots.
The new guidelines indicate that updated vaccines will probably be available in the fall for Americans over the age of 65, as well as those older than 6 months who have at least one condition putting them at higher risk of severe illness, as well as people with conditions such as asthma, diabetes, cancer and obesity, in addition to pregnant women. Top FDA leaders estimate more than 100 million Americans would be eligible for the shots under the new framework. In past years, the shots have been broadly recommended, including to children and otherwise generally healthy Americans.
It was not immediately clear if healthy people under 65 would be able to get the shots or whether insurers would pay for them if so. Health experts said that whether individuals outside those risk groups would have to pay out of pocket for covid shots depends on how the guidelines are written.

How many Americans are still getting boosters for COVID 19
The most recent data indicates that as of April 26, 2025, about 23% of U.S. adults (approximately 59.6 million people, based on a U.S. adult population of roughly 260 million) have received the updated 2024–25 COVID-19 vaccine. For children, the uptake is lower, with less than 10% of those under 12 years old vaccinated in the 2024–25 season. Among specific groups, 50% of adults over 75 have received boosters, while overall, less than 25% of Americans have gotten boosters in this period. Additionally, around 30.8 million doses of the 2024–25 vaccine were administered in retail pharmacies and physicians’ offices by April 26, 2025.
These figures reflect a significant decline in booster uptake compared to earlier years, with only 13.9% of adults (about 36 million) reported to have received the updated vaccine by November 2023. Public sentiment, as seen in posts on X, suggests waning interest, with hesitancy and vaccine fatigue contributing to low participation rates. Data on healthcare workers shows less than one-third participated in the 2023–24 booster program, further highlighting reduced engagement.
