We can see it happening now with AI, as if we couldn't do a thing without it.
But to use it properly we need new hardware to run the latest software, so we need to spend lots of money to be at the cutting edge of things.
In my case, I am now searching for my ancestors on the official Portuguese archives that are online (not all documents were scanned, but most parish records were) to make my family tree (I have gone back as far as 1704), so I tried to use an online AI resizing service to get better images of the documents, but as they have size limits I tried to look for an offline method (that's another thing, most online AI services ask you to login, either by creating an account or by using a Google or similar account).
I found two that looked good, but one only was able to use one of the methods (not the best either) and the other works but uses only the CPU, as my computer's GPU (a NVIDIA Quadro K600 with only 1GB of memory) does not have the most recent features used by the software.
As a result, it takes somewhere between 2 to 30 minutes, depending on the image size and complexity.
And no, I am not going to buy a new graphics card just because of that.
