Many people remember the pose of the statue differently. Instead of the chin resting on the back of an open hand, they remember a fist or the statue with its hand to its forehead, or its elbow on the other knee, or some such. There's lots of what is called "residue", like this:

A weird photo, with a group of people in front of the statue itself. You'd think at least one of them would be doing it correctly. Did the statue change, and the reality-change "miss" the people in the scene?

Plus, Rodin himself described the statue:
