Of course that would be more than bad, as well. But humans censoring or rewriting history is a tiny bit off topic, though tangential.
The ones programming the AI are the ones choosing which 'facts' to present, and often leaving out dialogues, interviews, articles, and primary sources that they don't like or simply don't know about.
See my post above about AI eating itself, bad feedback loop of missing data and nonsense.

Well you are making a very big point in the dumbing down of humanity, so I just had to say that there are many factors at play that are doing that, so don't blame AI solely.

It's not alone in being a culprit - but based on personal experience and observation both online in this forum, at work in real life, reading studies, and talking with friends, it's extremely insidious, pervasive, invasive, and viral in often a very destructive way, far more powerful negatively than video entertainment or games. Video entertainment and games you still have to use some semblance of volition, and imagination, however slight, with AI , if you ask it everything, instead of even doing a web search/researching yourself, you are literally making yourself obsolete and pretending it's correct, and never learning background, primary sources, reading for your self, or learning a skill through trial and error, in the most harmless example.

I think since the introduction of youtube videos most people use that as their go to for training/learning to see others' trials and errors, and it's free.
I really can't speak for the younger generations use of AI only my own, which is rare and mostly used as a data collection summary, same as Wikipedia, only summarized. I actually think AI gets most of it's data from sites such as Wikipedia. Yes, it saves me reading walls of text but I can speed read so if I have to I will read.

The issue there is the curation of the data and the willful and/or negligent omission of a full set of sources , especially older than 10 or 20 years. If you are truth-minded, then by extrapolation you are conspiracy-minded, and you know that information is always corralled and controlled. AI is the perfect 'think-this-way-not-your-own-way' command tool.
AI has constantly been found to lie, present false data, and even hallucinate. So even using it for data collection is in my opinion, a mistake.

Did you ever differentiate which topics it tends to present false data and/or hallucinate? I wonder about correlations in garbage in/garbage out scenarios.

The studies are in this thread above, I think it was in all fields, unfortunately.
I recall in legal cases (terrifying) it was hallucinating cases that never happened, that's up there.
I recall a personal anecdote my wife asked ChatGPT this week for the interview in which such a such a singer talked about this topic and it said no such interview ever existed, she has never discussed xyz and then my wife found it in 30 seconds on her own with a websearch.
There's a lot of examples from all over.

Well let's hope the word gets out to the masses warning them that this could happen.

The Word is Out on all the academic journals, online videos, and forums, the question is do people say 'oh its not me I am not stupid I dont use it too much, it actually likes me it has a personality. ' or do they not even see the information because Big Tech 'algorithm's it away from them? Or do they plain old ignore it cuz, convenience?

Time will tell, but it sure seems it's very popular and many want and need it in their lives.
