Terence McKenna - Space-Time Reality is Complexifying at an Exponential Rate of Speed
#1
Terence McKenna was a psychedelic explorer, philosopher and author who gained insights into the structure of time through the use of magic mushrooms and DMT.  Although he was one of the main proponents of 2012 prophecy, his "Novelty Theory" suggested time as having a spiral structure, that gained momentum as historical sequences of evolution moved towards more complexity over time, which then proceeded to happen at a faster and faster rate of speed.

He used a computer model of his novelty theory, which allegedly graphed historical time on Earth with the ebb and flow of "habit and novelty", with novelty and complexity eventually moving exponentially towards the point of infinity on December 21st 2012.

Although we are now living in 2025, it seems thoroughly apparent to anyone paying attention to technological innovation, as well as overall situations happening on the planet in the current time, that things are accelerating furiously.  Novelty theory explains this.

Terence McKenna gave a final interview about this subject in Hawaii, shortly before his death in 2000, which was eventually released on the website Reality Sandwich.

He was amazing at explaining things so poetically in his soothing voice. One of a kind.

Oh. And yeah I believe the world did change. I felt something, a unique physical sensation, I've only felt a couple times in my life on the day in question. It was the start of something IMO.

I was actually fully immersed in listening to every single available copy of Terence McKenna's lectures, interviews etc way back around 20 years ago.  I listened to all of the available mp3s of McKenna material multiple times over the years.  It has been quite some time since I have returned to his work, but a recent post I noticed on X of this particular last interview, reminded me again of his "novelty theory".  With the advent of Artificial Intelligence, and a furiously accelerating social media and other technologies, I have to entertain the possibility that McKenna's novelty theory extends way past the time of 2012, and essentially continues forever into the outer and inner edges of infinity.  So the complexification of technology and reality has quite severe ramifications and implications on what is to happen to all of us in the immediate future.  I suspect the UFO enigma has something to do with this...

@greymagick

I didn't know he ever even talked about 2012. I just check him out whenever youtube wants me to.

But I just had the notion to look up something probably unrelated. In 2010 the LHC "achieved first successful collisions."

I think he was on to something with his stoned apes theory, recent research has shown how psylosibin (spelling?) rewires the brain. Even at micro doses and anyone who has experienced higher doses knows how it alters perception and brings about altered states of consciousness, perhaps kicking off the development of the human brain.

@SurferSoul

Praveen Mohan recently said on a podcast that gibbons have been observed eating the mushrooms that grow from cow droppings and suggested this is part of why they're sacred in India.

Paul Stamets, one of the leading mycologists on the planet, has supported the McKenna brothers "stoned ape hypothesis", which is outlined in Terence McKenna's book 'Food of the Gods' (once said to be one of Joe Rogan's favorite books, if that matters any).

The theory outlines how our ape ancestors would have encountered psychedelic mushrooms growing in the grasslands of Africa, once we had to forage further out of the forests to live and find food.  The properties of psilocybin magic mushrooms are directly connected to our serotonin receptors in the brain, and McKenna's theory suggests that the ingestion of these compounds in our very early history is what led to the rapid growth of our brain out of biological history on the planet.

I have 8 dried grams of magic mushrooms waiting for me in my medicine cabinet.  I think of that as 2 separate journeys, 4 grams each.  1-2 grams just isn't enough to give you hallucinatory visions...

Here’s a couple of things I think you guys will find really interesting.
Search for the Forum Borealis podcast, look for the episode titled Anthony Peake-The End of Time parts 1&2.
It’s a very deep dive into all things related to time and touches on the topic of the OP. Forum Borealis is a fantastic podcast with most of the topics covering the subjects we have here.

Also check out The Psychedelic Salon podcast, the host Lorenzo doesn’t seem to be releasing new shows anymore but there is a wealth of podcasts to listen to in the back catalogue. Many Terence McKenna interviews and lectures, probably all of them, as well as many of topics and guests all related to psychedelics.

I like to listen when driving, cleaning, anything that doesn’t require to much concentration and is otherwise boring. Makes life better.

Also there are "trilogues" with Terence McKenna, Rupert Sheldrake, and Ralph Abraham:

Video: https://www.sheldrake.org/videos/videos-...trialogues
Audio: https://www.sheldrake.org/audios/the-she...trialogues

There's 57 audio recordings, and 5 video recordings, on a variety of subjects. They're great!

Thanks!  I am familiar with Anthony Peake, I think from his work on afterlife research.  From what I understand, that is something he is really interested in and specializes in.  Like Near Death Experiences and theories about reincarnation etc.  I know he is on my Facebook feed, and I remember him saying the other year that he was experiencing all manner of technical difficulties while trying to make podcasts about the subject, and he essentially gave up trying!  I will have to check out that interview about time, that should be fascinating.

I remember Lorenzo's Psychedelic Salon from back in the day.  I remember when Ralph Abraham gifted him with a box full of cassette tapes of all their Trialogues talks at Esalen.  Rupert Sheldrake, Ralph Abraham and Terence McKenna.  And he digitized them all and put them on his website.  I digitized some of the old Trialogues VHS tapes way back too.  I am really interested in multimedia sharing on BitTorrent sites, like The Pirate Bay and ConCen.  I was heavy into McKenna around 2005 or so, but I often re-visit his audiobook 'True Hallucinations', because it's one of my favorite audiobooks ever recorded (by Sound Photosynthesis).
