I go back to Michael Vick again, a pretty heinous crime, plenty wanted him banned for life. Hell, I agreed, BUT that isn't really fair to a person who has paid what our legal system considers his debt for the heinous crime he committed.
It was left up to public sentiment, there were a few protests BUT overall all NFL fans didn't care. You know, like a democracy works
The world's full of injustices. Conversely, Trevor Bauer got royally screwed just because his accuser rose during the height of the Me Too movement
He was a lousy teammate, pretty much antisocial social azzhat, BUT he did none of the heinous crimes he was accused of and still has an effective ban from baseball.
So it isn't always, it just happens sometimes...
Im completely convinced Watson is guilty, and he gets his 290 million contract from the NFL. Because it is the law of the land, and a completely legal law-abiding negotiated settlement.
If the NFL or any other league chooses league-wide punishment or bans, they would likely continually get sued by the numerous DAPs and lose, and the resultant PR nightmare(s) would damage the brand.
Domestic abuse doesn't threaten the league's integrity or have the far-reaching consequences like gambling does.
Domestic abuse cases, public or high profile, almost always have negotiated settlements, or our court systems would be clogged up forever.
FWIW, AI estimates
less than 1 player in 100 and less than 1 coach in 300 gets caught up in a domestic abuse case,
That Trevor Bauer incident was one of the worst things ever done to a pro player.
They dragged him through the mud and destroyed his career for absolutely nothing.
It was way worse than what the NFL did to Jon Gruden.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of the guy from way back. Bauer was the guy early on in his career when a coach came to take him out after a bad inning of pitching. Bauer, instead of handing the ball to the coach, threw the ball over the centerfield fence
He has loads of obnoxious incidents and comments with teammates and coaches, and he still didn't deserve what happened to him as his prime years were fading, easily costing Bauer 30-40 million in future salaries alone if not more.
Not even sure how much of his Dodger salary he actually received.
Id take him on my home team now. He was a helluva pitcher, pretty much made himself an All-Star MLB pitcher. 3-4 years later, he still has nice stuff, definitely on par with MLB average pitchers
His mind was not for rent to any god or government
Always hopeful yet discontent, knows changes aren't permanent
But change is

Again...
any time there's any kind of rumbling regarding Epstein, another "major story involving the FBI" comes to light.

Sure, but this is kind of a big deal too and it could become a bigger issue. However yeah, I would like to get that Epstein stuff they promised as well.

This has been a common theme in sports for decades. Gambling gets massive punishment, violence and domestic abuse gets a slap on the wrist.
Im sure there’s more corruption from Vegas (broader now that it’s legal, but the books) than players and coaches.
I just think it’s hilarious the priorities in sports is all. It’s a game at the end of the day. If it is rigged, it’s a game.
I would think that if it is rigged, it's not a game... just a show...
but everyone knows 'entertainment' is king after all.
