Taco Bell 50k
#1
Now, I have heard of beer miles, ultramarathons, 5ks, mud runs, and all other sorts of variations on a tradition race, but a Taco Bell 50k was never even on my radar.

The city of Denver, Colorado, for the last 8 years, has been putting on this "ultramarathon" that traverses 31 miles around the city, making 10 stops at various Taco bell locations, and ends once you reach the finish line and have met their requirements, listed below, of completion.

Quote:Race Rules
  1. Be present at all 10 Taco Bell stops along the courses. Zero tolerance for course cutting.
  2. Eat a menu item from at least 9 of the 10 Taco Bell stops.
  3. By the 4th stop, all entrants must have consumed at least one (1) Chalupa Supreme or one Crunchwrap Supreme (dietary restrictions will be allowed within reason).
  4. By the 8th stop, all entrants must have consumed at least one (1) Burrito Supreme or one Nachos Bell Grande (dietary restrictions will be allowed within reason).
  5. Finish under 11 hours.
  6. Drinks do not count as food.
  7. Entrants must keep all receipts and wrappers for confirmation of stupidity at the end of the run.
  8. An off-course bathroom break will be allowed at Wash Park.
  9. SURVIVORS will eventually get a commemorative item after successful completion of the run.
  10. If you intend to participate, RSVP your statement of intent. ONCE YOU RSVP, YOU ARE IN. THIS IS LIKE THE GOBLET OF FIRE.
  11. No on-course Pepto, Alka Seltzer, Pepcid A/C, Mylanta will be allowed!
  12. Additional "rules" may be added, amended, or changed to promote the intent of this run, which is to do something completely stupid.
  13. Congratulations?
* Diablo Challenge - lather all items with Diablo sauce and do a Diablo shooter at the end.
** Baja Blast Challenge – drink an aggregate of 2 Liters of Baja Blast during the run without vomiting.

Now, we all missed the race this year, but this gives everyone plenty of time to practice and get registered for last year.  How many of us on here think they could compete, and finish, this one of a kind race?

I could do the eating challenge aspect, but the running, you would find me dead on the side of the road.

I will also be interested to hear about any other weird and/or unusual sporting events that happen in and around your area.

Erm, nowhere in hose rules do they specify you have to run. I would drive it but not that much food in a day especially from Taco Bell.

Whoever made those rules has never even been to a marathon before.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

If it were a beer run, it would depend on the beer, concerning how far and fast I would run. If I had to run from craft brewery to craft brewery to get a free beer at each, I'd consider running it. The same for food, and IMO, Taco Smell isn't worth walking more than one city block if you get a free taco to go.

ETA: An entrance fee of any amount would make a Taco Bell run out of the question for me; however, a brewery run would be worth some money up front.

If you look at the link it specifies in the map and course description it is a foot race. Also, it does say in the rules "zero tolerance for course cutting".

I'm sure it started off as a joke then they had people show up and continued it form there.

In most cases I have a seen, beer runs are usually with IPA's or very heavy beers.  I would do it if allowed to bring my own beer, but I have never been one for those yeast heavy brews.
