THE REDNECK -- Farewell, old friend
#51
Doug fought hard; his kidneys stopped working, then his lungs and the lining around them filled with fluid, then his heart.  He went from 159lb to 89lb in 3 months; he just didn't have anything left to fight with.  My brother will be a pall bearer they were like brothers.  Unfortunately I'm unable to attend the service as the drive is too long for my husband and I can't leave him alone for 3 to 4 days.  He'll be buried on his place along with his wife Sandra when her time comes.

Doug was a caring wonderful person.  He was always ready to help whenever and however he could, he loved Sandra and his kids and grandkids so much.  He was smart, articulate and yes a smart ass.  I loved spending the holidays with them.  We lost a bright light.  Fly high Doug you'll be missed.

Argentus and DTOM Doug loved you guys and frequently mentioned you.

This is sad. He must have been a tough person.
Be kind to everyone!

Easily one of the best people I've ever come to know. He was genuine and had a huge heart.  I have thought of him often and hoped he would start posting here.

RIP Doug

Doug and I once had a long conversation on the afterlife, I'm hoping he's chillling on his dream homestead and enjoying the weather, fishing and enjoying the day.  He was a wonderful and charming person, and I feel better for have knowing him. RIP Redneck, he was a real trooper.  Saint

This began, most recognizably, with the rejection of politically-oriented thinking as essentially a hopeless waste of intellectual effort." ~ John Forbes Nash

He may have been a little rough around the edges....but was a wonderful and loyal friend.
You and seagull are lucky to have been able to get to know him and Sandra so well.

Blessings to all...and please be sure to send my regards to Sandra.   I know Doug loved he very much...she must be hurting.

Just seeing this, I had no idea.  Terrible news.  I’ve had many of conversations with him going back many years.   Always a no nonsense straight shooter which I value very much in a person.  He will be sorely missed.
Apparently I’m in cult now, someone here told me so.

I have not been able to reach Doug's Darlin';  when I call, nothing happens.   Will keep trying.   I can well imagine she isn't ready to be bothered.   She and I and Doug talked together a couple times.  She seems a dear heart.

Sorry to hear this but thanks for letting us know OP, I hope his folks are holding up ok.

I rarely agreed with him and regularly had heated debates with him on ATS but he was clearly a really good and very clever guy. He even managed to completely change my opinion on certain matters, in paticular US gun ownership, which is something only a handful of people have achieved due to me being a stubborn bastard.
