yeah i had a similar thought in this thread but it didn't really get any where

problem is it reduces political motion to one side saying "we want to do a thing!" and the other side saying "no, we don't want that thing!" with no real nuance about various approaches in policy. which is fine for the type of government the usa has, i suppose.

dems don't really have a coherent party right now, a fact which is occluded by the only thing they're coherent about, which is they don't like trump. problem is the republicans aren't that unified either, what with war and fiscal stuff and all. musk's thing has interesting possibilities, mostly likely going nowhere, maybe gathering up some repub splinters for the dems, or maybe maybe slim possibility pulling dems and non-war repubs into a new coalition for trump anointed candidate to head in 28, killing the gop. that would be interesting, not likely seeming right now but can't be ruled out?

more likely the whole thing is prearranged, musk stepped in with a 6mo time window from the get-go, undisclosed to public for obvious reasons, because of course he doesn't want to be stuck in dc forever. then rather than drift away, it's best for him to repivot with a big scripted drama-break. this way he can "see the light" on whatever issue, give trump something to push back against, which is frankly fuel for the trump machine after all. let's him use the drama to shake off the stink of politics. i mean, do we actually think any of this is real?

needless to say i think you have a point but i don't think it's too probably without a lot of other externalities converging too
