Scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have discovered cancer cells originating in a common tapeworm may take root in people with weakened immune systems, causing cancer-like tumors. It is the first known case of a person becoming ill from cancer cells that arose in a parasite – in this case, Hymenolepis nana, the dwarf tapeworm.
 
The report, in the Nov. 5 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, raises concern that other similar cases, if they occur, may be misdiagnosed as human cancer – especially in less developed countries where this tapeworm and immune-system-suppressing illnesses like HIV are widespread.
 
“We were amazed when we found this new type of disease – tapeworms growing inside a person essentially getting cancer that spreads to the person, causing tumors,” said Atis Muehlenbachs, M.D., Ph.D., staff pathologist in CDC’s Infectious Diseases Pathology Branch (IDPB) and lead author of the study. “We think this type of event is rare. However, this tapeworm is found worldwide and millions of people globally suffer from conditions like HIV that weaken their immune system. So there may be more cases that are unrecognized. It’s definitely an area that deserves more study.”

Zelenskyy was speaking at a news conference in Kyiv on Sunday, one day ahead of the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
 
Asked about the need for a presidential election, Zelenskyy said he is willing to resign if it can achieve peace for Ukraine.

He also said he could trade his office for Ukraine's NATO membership.

US President Donald Trump has called Zelenskyy a "dictator without elections" and said Ukraine needs to hold a presidential vote.

On dialogue with the United States over its rights to access Ukraine's mineral resources, Zelenskyy said the initial plan presented by Washington did not include security guarantees.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday balked at signing any mineral-rights deal with the US that would be considered repayment for previous aid given under the Biden administration.

President Trump has been demanding such a pact, but Ukraine has been pushing for new security guarantees or fresh military funding in exchange for its minerals.

“I do not recognize [that Kyiv owes the US] even $100 billion,” Zelensky told reporters at a press conference a day before the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of his country.

“We agreed with Biden that this was a grant. A grant is not a debt,” Zelensky said.

Trump has been inaccurately repeating in recent weeks that the US has given Ukraine an estimated $350 billion to defend itself against Russia — and that a deal granting Washington rights to hundreds of billions of dollars worth of critical and rare-earth minerals in Ukraine should serve as backpay for aid offered to Kyiv before he took office.

Yeah, it sounds like Zelensky wants security and protection for himself more than anything else. I say that if Zelensky doesn't want to deal with paying back its debtors, then the US should just take the loss and walk away. Zelensky will end up losing Ukrainian resources to Russia as well as a lot if not all its territories. 

Given that he just recently stated that he doesn't know where a lot of the billions went, I'm willing to believe that all this bluster is more about getting himself and his cohorts exposed, then it is about protecting the Ukrainian populace.

That's a pretty messed up suddenly retooled aid package.

Since when was this a loan? Before or after it became a way for Trump and Putin to squeeze everything they can from this and leave Ukraine for fucked?

This is like the one time ever we decided to do this. I just can't see there be a legally binding payback clause for a Biden era aid package either.

This really is a bitch move of us to change leadership, change the terms or our aid, and use their position of need for our own gain. And feel justified as Russian State Media has since changed our opinion. It's a kind of state level ethos that invites cosmic reciprocation for its total lack of integrity.

I have a vision that their productive discussion on the phone was them deciding as rich and powerful equals (like is Trump's fantasy) the best way to gang rape Ukraine and blame her for dressing provocatively.
