Stargate franchise: need some advice
#1
I recently watched again Stargate (1994) and I always wished there had been a sequel. A quick search brought up two other movies that went straight to DVD and that I had never heard about.

Now I’m in a bit of a quagmire and need some advice.

I understand that “Stargate: The Ark of Truth” and “Stargate Continuum” came after the TV series SG-1, but I’ve never seen that show. So, my question is: Is it worth watching the two movies without having to go through Series 1 of the TV show?

I feel I might be wasting my time with these two films, and I don’t want to tarnish the good memories of the original movie.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sure.

Continuum stands alone. It wraps up a plot device (system lords) but it can be watched without having knowledge of the series.

Ark of Truth wraps up The Ori arc from season 9 and 10, after MacGyver got sick of doing it and left the show. All you need to know there is there are good ascended energy creatures and bad ascended energy creatures. The good energy people (The Ancients) believe in total free will and non interference and the bad energy beings (The Ori) feed off worship to gain power and demand obedience under penalty of death.

The Ark is the weapon against the evil energy beings and their followers.

And now you don't need to watch the show.

Ok, that's great, thanks!

I just want to enjoy some Stargate for a few hours and not have to dredge through an enitre series... at least for now.

this ep was fun and pretty much standalone, s04e06:

(its perfectly okay to cherry-pick eps as there's a lot of standalone fun ones and the show was from the beforetimes when everything wasn't just one long plot arc and you'd be totally lost if you did that, made for casual channelflip watching)

Ooh, thanks for the tip, UB.

That sounds like a Groundhog day type episode... I know it's going to mess with my mind if I'm too sober.

You don't have to watch SG-1 to save time, but doing so will familiarise you with the cast and storylines.

I was afraid someone would say that, xpert11.

Maybe I'll just watch the first few episodes, hopefully that should be enough to get a feel for who's who and where we are.
