I worked in IT with someone from Central Russia for three years and can understand TV/movie dialogue, but I'm not a native speaker, nor can I read cyrillic.

If the stuff you want to know is in text format, there are numerous online translation services that don't do too bad a job (as far as I know).

If it's a video you want to understand, YouTube has a transcript function which seems to use an AI interpretation, which could be translated (not sure if it does so automatically).

I wanted to take it back in secondary school.

But there were not enouth people interested for them to run the class...
