Personal choice.
I just do not like Serifs.

I think I agree with you, but you may be slightly confusing the issue -- Times New Roman is a serif font, with the little jutty bits on the glyphs, whereas the others like Calibri and Arial are Sans Serif fonts (without serifs).
I think San Serif fonts became more popular in the 1900s when so called "dot-matrix" printers and primitive displays known as "CRTs" were low-resolution (less than 100 dpi). You need higher resolution to display serifs correctly.

Since we are talking about type faces, I am reading a book that was 'republished' in 2007 or so, but they used the same proofs from the first edition in the 80s without retypesetting and it's so hilarious/ugly.
I think the author printed it on a home dot matrix printer and this publisher (Weiser of all people) just re-released it 'verbatim' lol
It's so bad.
Without the new typesetting they had to print it in pretty much 8.5 x 11 size too. haha.

Probably off topic by now... but I always felt Calibri was a nod to smaller device screens.
I never read that anywhere.. the whole "kerning' thing sort of seemed appropriate to assume.

I thought Omar Serif was dead.

If you want "degenerate nature" in writing, you have only to look at my handwriting. It comes from taking a lot of notes over a lot of years of schooling (colleges and universities.)
I've tried improving it, but with little success.

Sweet new font hot off the press. Your GSA tax dollars at work, people!
A strong, neutral typeface for interfaces, text, and headings

If there's anyone who can solve issues with clear methods of communication and expressing information, it's the government.
And, it is both strong and neutral!
What do y'all think?
