Well, it's not really the same font size as on a document now, is it? I'd suspect most fonts would be quite 'readable' in that size, but on documents? Not so much.
As far as the apple tree is concerned, there's probably not much difference between a worm and a human...

The link I posted above says the New Times Roman font will need to be enlarged to be readable on documents, thus making the savings of printing ink negligible. It's all for nothing. Except UltraBudgie's theory that Calibri was somehow giving off homosexual vibes to those in your government that look at it. I am saying it looks straight to me.

To me it seems to say Garamond would need to be of a higher size since it is slimmer than Times New Romans, or so the paragraph before the last tells me.

For the record, I don't 'own' a government, and I'm not a US citizen either.

Typefaces with serifs are objectively more readable than those without.

Serifs are obviously better:

I'm all for it!  As you point out, the problem with "I" and "L" is really annoying, particularly when you're trying to type out some sort of inane confirmation code.  Zero and O are another one of those where distinction is needed.

I don't see the problem.

I've wondered for years why we don't put a line through the zero like some countries do.

This is just upbringing perhaps, but I think Times New Roman projects a more professional and literary face, while Serifs / calibri type looks more corporate and throw-away.

I think no Serifs -- looks more modern.  I prefer sleek modern.

I don't have a nostalgic bone in my body.  Times New Roman just seems antiquated to me.

Times New Roman is for newspapers, essays, and articles, literature, letters.
Serif is for advertising, fake articles pretending to be anything but ads, click bait, chatting, . Works for fast streamlining.
it makes people want to not sit still and read slowly.

"What Matters Most (TL;DR)
  • Choose serif fonts (Times New Roman, Georgia, Garamond) for timeless readability and printed professionalism.
  • Use neo-grotesque sans serifs (Arial, Helvetica Neue, Calibri) for clean, modern digital readability.
  • Pair 2–3 complementary fonts (serif + sans) to create hierarchy, contrast and consistent branding.
  • Prioritise accessibility: distinct characters, open counters and generous spacing for inclusive legibility.
  • Select fonts by audience and medium—balance conventional choices with distinctive modern faces for appropriate tone."

See the issue with Times New Roman when they start to move more information digitally? It is not recommended for that use.
