I really hope this is true and not just a propaganda video

Lockheed Martin has publicly discussed the SR‑72. It is a serious concept with projected speeds over Mach 6, unmanned operation, and a turbine-scramjet hybrid engine. That much is firmly grounded in real engineering goals and public statements.
As for the rest, claims about missile launches at high speed or China redirecting satellites to snoop on the Top Gun set lean more into speculation. Some details are inspired by real technologies and past programs, but none of it has been officially verified. The SR‑72 remains a highly classified effort, and those with real knowledge are not talking. It's a cool video, definitely rooted in real tech, but a lot of it is hype and conjecture. It’s rooted in a real design, but the adage “form follows function” is especially true in aerospace. Any high speed design is going to have some very similar features out of necessity.

I think this video doing its intended purpose. Get China and Russia to spend time and effort on hypersonic development to make the US Congress fund US research on it also.
I am not saying we don't need such an aircraft but that is how things are done. Missle launching capabilities? Just why? By the time you realize you have a moving hypersonic target, you have already moved out of firing range. Your previous target would be for other weapon systems to take care of. I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance? Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

When you think that the SR-71 Blackbird was finally retired 1998, leaving the rumors of its replacement, The Aurora, still doing the rounds even today despite a nothing more than high level photos and weird contrails, as the only evidence of a replacement, it's pretty certain than the US must have developed a replacement at some point and maybe The Darkstar / SR-72 is the replacement for the Aurora ?
If you look at it from a different perspective, how likely is it that no top secret replacement for the SR-71 has ever been designed and built ?

Aurora was the fever dream of one person that was taken as gospel, after he saw a single line item in the budget one year. According to Ben Rich, it was actually the funding for the redesign of the B-2 to allow low level penetration. Which makes sense considering it only showed up one year, and was nowhere near enough money for a full program. Not to say there wasn’t something out there, but it being called Aurora is almost certainly not it.

It goes back to Prompt Global Strike. Even without ever using it, it’s a useful tool to have in your toolbox. |
