PBS votes itself out of existence
#1
Quote:Leaders of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a private agency that has steered federal funding to PBS, NPR and hundreds of public television and radio stations across the country, voted Monday to dissolve the organization that was created in 1967.
CPB had been winding down since Congress acted last summer to defund its operations at the encouragement of President Donald Trump. Its board of directors chose Monday to shutter CPB completely instead of keeping it in existence as a shell.
“CPB’s final act would be to protect the integrity of the public media system and the democratic values by dissolving, rather than allowing the organization to remain defunded and vulnerable to additional attacks,” said Patricia Harrison, the organization’s president and CEO.
Arkansas becomes first state to end PBS affiliation Many Republicans have long accused public broadcasting, particularly its news programming, of being biased toward liberals but it wasn’t until the second Trump administration —- with full GOP control of Congress — that those criticisms were turned into action.
Ruby Calvert, head of CPB’s board of directors, said the federal defunding of public media has been devastating.

They had some good programing but they crossed the line with many when they went woke and socialist purveyors of propaganda. So now their programing will sink or swim on their own merit without tax payer money; just the way things are supposed to work IMO.

CPB ≠ PBS

No worries you will still be able to get your pseudo-objective news and weird groomer puppets.

That’s good news. Since they lost funding they’ve been writing the most rabid leftist agenda you can imagine.  I read one the other day they did on Trump. Let’s just say they showed their true colors.  Glad they’re gone.

PBS is still on the air and is going to still be broadcasting from what I read in an article...at least for now.  I do not know how the loss of funding from CPB will effect PBS.  We watch PBS occasionally, most of their funding did not come through CPB according to that article I read.

Although, just because I read that article does not mean it is true...but it seemed legitimate, not like what most media is insinuating about this.

RIP PBS. You helped shape my childhood and countless others.

while I’d go so far as to say you’re indispensable, I can see where others think you have veered to much from the 3 R’a into DEI territory.

Regardless. I can still spell and count to 1000, so thank you.

This goes way back to the Clearchannel (Christian Nationalists) takeover of the airwaves.

A "Clear Channel airwave takeover"
refers to the massive consolidation of radio stations by Clear Channel (now iHeartMedia) in the late 1990s and early 2000s, which sparked widespread backlash for creating media monopolies, reducing local content, and promoting syndicated programming (like Rush Limbaugh), leading to public outcry, anti-monopoly lawsuits, and concerns about media diversity, culminating in a major 2008 private equity takeover and the company's rebranding to iHeartMedia in 2014.

I wouldn't worry much about this...

You see... I was alive when it actually was (more or less) actually "public" ... but once journalism died to be replaced by 'self-expression'... strange things happened to point  out to us all...

"...broadcast is brought to you by..." insert sponsor name...

became

"...broadcast is brought to you by..." insert sponsor name, address, services and products, phone numbers, website... and even 'offers' from the sponsor..."

They started not mentioning support... but advertising for them.

Then...

Selected "Narratives" were 'forbidden' inside the PBS combine...

Then...

They began telling us not just what was happening, but how their favorite personalities 'characterize' it.
The willingly and enthusiastically provide a platform that speaks entirely of their own editorial "policy."

They ceased to represent "public" broadcasting as a choice of "journalism" - which was of course, the choice to abandon 'factual reporting' as a pledge of responsibility.

In effect they haven't been "PBS" for a very long time... they became a platform for "partisan" narratives... on purpose.  They rejected 'investigation' in exchange for "press releases."  (And they called that "news.")

The public expects that potential from a commercial news source...

PBS was an effort to provide something less "bought and paid for" in the way of news sources.

I think this vote - devoid of virtue signaling and political intent - shows they have surrendered to the reality I propose above... and maybe all else is intrigue.

Can PBS exist anymore?  Is it possible to be balanced and dispassionate in the task of recording history for the American people?.....

Of course it can.... and that scares politicians to death.

If we had an I.G. for such affairs as this... and a editorial purpose that would not be compromised...

Even Big Media would have to worry about the survival of it's golden minions...
Hell, Big anything would have to worry...

Ah... such a dream...

Now we have "seek" news.

Seek and you will find -- maybe.
