My story of why I’m involved in supernatural
#1
As I eluded to in my introduction to the Deny Ignorance, there is a story that explains my entry into the supernatural. I think my first post would be good to explain how I ended up in this world.

This may be a long story, but I will do my best to keep it as short as possible.

My childhood

My childhood, let’s just say, was not a good one. I grew up moving every few years, and went all over the nation. No, I was not a military brat, we just moved a lot.

Due to all the moving, I never had very many friends, and in actuality, I had none. A trait I really kept through most my life.

When I was in middle school, we ended up moving to New York. Not the city, but not exactly upstate either. Was now a kid, who was poor beyond poor, had no friends and was in yet another new place. I spent everyday either in school, and then home to sit alone with no TV and no toys. Maybe my imagination is what got the best of me, but when you are always alone, your imagination is what you have.

The story

After living there for about six months, I had gotten used to being alone in the house at night, not knowing where any family was or when they would be home. We were in a one story home, on a busy street, that only had one entrance into the house. There was a garage door as well, but that door was broken and couldn’t move up and down. We lived on a hill, so only the front door windows (which did not open) were on ground level. The back windows were about 12 feet up in the air, with no way to get to them without a ladder. My window was on the back side of the house.

At some point after I went to bed, I heard movement in the house. We had no pets at the time, and I was pretty sure I was alone, so I decided to get up and look around. The house was maybe 700 square feet, all one floor and not hard to navigate. I went through the whole house, and verified I was the only one in the house and all the lights were off. It was around 1am, siblings and parents were no where to be seen.

I decided to go back to bed, and try to fall asleep. It took only a few minutes until I heard again, thump, thump, thump in the house. This time I did not get out of bed, as I could see at least the entrance to every room except the kitchen from where I was. Nothing came by the door, and the thumping stopped.

Another five minutes passes, and again I hear thump, thump, thump. This time was different though, as I nervously looked out the door to my bedroom, I saw a figure, that looked slightly larger than an adult male. It was white, had no clothes on and was covered in fur. I could see the siloeutte in my door and it was sideways , hopping down the hall. On its back, there was a puffy tail.

I must have made a sound, as it stopped in front of my room, turned and even though I could not see any details, but I saw “ears” sticking up from its head. My nine year old self thought it was a rabbit, and no, this was not during Easter time, so rabbits were not on my mind.

It faced the room for a while and then went hopping down the hallway. When I got the courage to go and look, there was nothing in the house. Again, it was a small house and not many places to hide. The front door was still locked, and nothing looked out of place.

It may have been a figment of my imagination, but the child in me was determined to learn as much as I could. There was nothing in internet, so no trying to Google or ask a forum. I was relegated to the school library and the library in town. Both were limited in what they had for supernatural information, and most were not very useful.

It did however, start my torrid love affair with the supernatural, occult and cryptozoology.

I did find some things through the years that could be what I saw.

1) This one is not likely: The BunnyMan

The story goes there was an escaped mental institution patient who went on a killing spree at the turn of the 20th century. He had killed several people under a bridge and hung their bodies from the bridge for all to see in the morning. He did this all while wearing a bunny costume. This was repeated over the next 100 years, in varying locations but similar details.

I do not think this was it because I was not killed, was not under a bridge and the location I was in never matched any known locations.

Here’s a little info for you if you want.

2) maybe - Giant Rabbits

In the northeast USA, there are tales of Giant Rabbits. These aren’t really supernatural, just claims that Giant rabbits exist, about the size of a Great Dane. This could make send as if it stood up on its hind legs, that would be the right size. However, no way for it to get into the house, or leave the house. So this I always thought was a maybe.

I could not find good information on this to post, but here is some information on Flemish Giant Rabbits…a real thing.

3) I think this may be it - Nanobozho

In Native American lore, specifically the First Nations, this large human like being can shift into the shape of many animals, but normally a large rabbit. They are know as tricksters. They cause havoc and are very greedy.
We were in NY to try and remedy our lives, and a fresh start. We were actually well on our way, and it was at around this time when everything took a turn for the worse and life got even poorer and harder.
This comes from First Nations lore, and we were in the heart of First Nations territory when this happened.

Here is some entry level reading, but there is so much more out there on this. I even spent time talking to Native Americans about this, and they too say this could have been it.

There is so much more out there on mythical rabbits, but this is the story that got me started and what I believe it to be.

Looking forward to anyone else’s thoughts!

You're probably too young to remember this.

Regardless of age, who doesn’t know the reference of Harvey!!!

I came up with what would be the closest representation that most can understand several years later when I saw Donnie Darko for the first time.

The rabbit did not do the same things, but the look of it when it faced me was closest to that.

So it was evil looking, like Donnie Darko? Good thing you didn't have engagement, if so.

I can tell you how to simulate the thumps and the bunny with fasting and sleep depravation and a little bit of trickery. Doors are gateways and you saw it through one. Alone time works well for the imagination and dreaming.

Has this happened to you before or since, ever in the same room?
The most difficult mental process of all is to consider objectively any concept which, if accepted as fact, will toss into discard a lifetime of training and experience.

Not so much evil looking, like I said, so couldn’t see any details. I just always thought Donnie Darko over Harvey due to having a more human face over rabbit face.

However, I never was able to tell so maybe it would be more Harvey.

Perhaps it was a figment of my imagination, it did however start my journey into this world, so whether it was real or not, it still changed my life.

I have never seen it again, and we moved out of that house over 30 years ago.

I have had several other occult/unexplainable experiences in my life, but never a large rabbit like this, and this was the first.

So you saw the rabbit and then started seeing other things and still chasing. Sounds fun.  What was the other stuff?

Why where you not scared?

That is really interesting; thank you for sharing!
When we are younger we definitely can see more through the Veil/ into the astral in a Waking conscious state than when we are older.
Did you get any vibes from it? Were you afraid or sense of dread? Or just neutral?

I was scared when it happened. I am not now it was so long ago.

I didn’t really start seeing other stuff, it was more when you start to study the occult and supernatural you start to see it around more.

Most of them are more occult related, witchcraft, demonology, etc.

Only afraid because I knew it should not be there, and I was alone.

I agree with you, about children being more sensitive. I have a few theories and stories about that as well.

I think it was more there to wreak havoc on the family than it was for any individual.
