My Voice, My Word Choice
#21
I am not trying to be a jerk but I'm going to open up some dictionary-dot-com and pull the top definitions for some words. Granted I'll say a dictionary is more of a guide than a book of law.

I also found some 'sensitivity' notes. I still feel they're close enough in definition to be used interchangably. The only reason for the shift is to protect feelings at the expense of telling you, an adult, what to do and how to feel--and I think that's kind of ridiculous. It's virtue signaling and thought coercion and does nothing to actually help the homeless or unhoused. That stigma is not going to go away with the change of an almost identical word just because you're told to use it and it makes you feel better.

I can come up with all kinds of alternatives if you want to put a more positive spin. Should we start calling our less fortunate brothers and sisters things like "mortage independent" or "the street scouts of society?"

Why pick an almost identical word? The emotions attached to the word come from you, not what people tell you to feel about it. This isn't even the only example by a long shot. It's been a whole movement of telling people what not to say and how to feel.

I also think it's ridiculous when the internet starts censoring and replacing actual words and demonetizing your video for using them (e.g. "rape,") but that's a different ballpark altogether.

Anyways it's not a hill I need to die on. I have no problem if the culture shifts towards another word usage. Let natue take its course. Just don't tell me what not to say and how to feel about it. Have enough respect to let me form my own feelings and use my own terms.

Ignore them. Any grammar cop I've seen I can play their game even harder against them in the same conversation.

Illegal alien.  Someone here, illegally.

Democratic socialism.  Just another work for communism.

Just a couple terms that I use correctly when people try to obfuscate or bullshit their way out of a policy decision.

Illegal immigrant.

This one isn't even on par with say like replacing midget for Little People or indian for Native/ Indigenous (notice the change in capitalizations too.)

There are deaf people and Deaf people. But it's still all identity politics to me.

This one illegal is to make people feel better about our open borders. You know how to really make people feel better about it? Work to change the law within the established rules, not override them because feelings.

When you control what people say, you can control how people think.

I would like to hear more of a rant on why the R-word is to be avoided.

Nah, I mean from @argentus, because he seems to have an opinion on it, and I'm actually interested.

It's important to yeet words when they become chopped. It also has the benefit of annoying the younger generations when you appropriate their slang.
