Reminds of the 2022... 2023 U.S. MQ‑9 drone/UAP video over the Middle East...

Both UAPs appear metallic and spherical, but captured years apart by different organizations and equipment.

I pulled data from a nearby airport from NOAA, Erbil International Airport 2016-04-16
About 50 miles straight line from Mosul to Erbil Airport

Wind from 060° (east-northeast) at 8 knots = about 14.8 km/h

This matches the direction of the orb’s drift WNW, indicating it's likely being carried by wind.

Thanks for looking up the meteorological data, but WNW corresponds to a heading of about 292.5 degrees.  The reciprocal direction of a wind blowing from 060 degrees is 240 degrees. You have just proved that the orb was not being moved by the wind.

Yeah, you could be right if the wind had stayed at 060°, but it didn’t. That data starts at 060 degrees early in the morning...  around 4am. The orb video was filmed closer to 9:45am UTC, and by then the wind had shifted. I just pasted the full data starting point.

At that time, it was coming more from around 130°, which means blowing close toward the northwest...  that is pretty close to the direction the orb moves in the video, accounting for drift and how it curves in the vid...

I'm not 100% sure if I converted everything correctly... good enough for gov. work and general direction LOL>

OK, I just had time to look at the video that has the original data from the EOIR sensor overlaid on it.  That data has an arrow pointing North.  The orb moves on a straight line that is basically parallel to the roof ridge lines of the buildings visible below its path.  By my eyeball and using a 30-60-90 drafting triangle, the orb is traveling on a heading about 35 degrees East of due North.  The wind would have to be blowing from 215 degrees (180 + 35) for the orb to be traveling with the wind.  When I look at the weather for Erbil on April 16, 2016 between noon and 1:00 PM, local time (UTC+3), it reports the wind as coming from the South, or 180 degrees.  So, the orb is not traveling downwind.

That’s pretty close to the direction, if you consider everything...

This is what it looks like, weather data from Erbil:
09:00 UTC, the wind directions recorded include 180°, 170°, 190°, 100°, 350°, 130°, 090°, 999°, 270°.
10:00 UTC, they include 220°, 040°, 120°, 140°, 330°, 130°, 240°, 300°, 180°, 160°, 280°, 310°, 150°, 190°, 250°, and many others.

While 180° is definitely present, it’s not the only direction. The wind wasn't consistent. There’s a lot of variation, and likely multiple wind layers involved too.

You said the orb is traveling on a heading about 35 degrees East of due North... 
If the camera were perfectly top-down, you could be right. The North arrow is based on aircraft orientation, also camera’s tilt and field of view etc... plus the orb appears to curve left in the video... too bad it's only 4 seconds long.

Could it be a balloon? Maybe. Military tech? Possibly.

UAP? Well… today I’ll go with UAP.
Too many variables to be sure.

i wonder, if it was night time film. if it was...was the orb glowing?
do we know the time the footage was taken?

Another thing to mention... it does not matter what direction the wind was blowing. the steadiness and smoothness of the flight suggests propulsion. even if along the wind direction.
