Yes, predominantly self serving but they won’t admit it so openly
They like to pretend they are nominally altruistic and not so self serving or seeking. 
Not only does the op think he is special, he thinks he is special without being special in anyway.

I can't believe that some people get angry just because King is having a little bit of fun, I mean, he doesn't really hurt anybody does he?!

How is he any different than all the entertainers/politicians/etc, of this world?!

At least he doesn't pretend to be "normal" (whatever that actually is).

All people can become dangerous, especially the people who seem "normal".
