China anger as US amends wording on Taiwan independence
#1
It looks like the US State Department made a small change to there website. China sees it as a mistake, and would like the US to fix it.

Likely just a little pot stirring by the Trump administration. At least it keeps life entertaining.

 https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clyzy300vlzo
Quote:The US State Department has dropped a statement from its website which stated that Washington does not support Taiwan's independence - a move which has sparked anger in China.
China said the revision "sends a wrong... signal to separatist forces advocating for Taiwan independence", and asked the US to "correct its mistakes".
The department's fact sheet on Taiwan-US relations earlier included the phrase "we do not support Taiwan independence" - this was removed last week as part of what it said was a "routine" update.
A US spokesperson was quoted as saying that it remains committed to the "One China" policy, it said, where US recognises and has formal ties with China rather than Taiwan.

Oh well, it's all about semiconductors now, isn't it?

https://www.state.gov/u-s-relations-with-taiwan/

Yep. AI search:

Quote:How much does the US make?
  • In 1990, the US made about 40% of the world's semiconductors, but today it makes only about 12%.
  • The US doesn't make any of the most advanced types of semiconductors.
  • Most advanced chips are developed in Taiwan

Isn't this the strangest thing? The American public thinks Taiwan is not China. The American media never refers to Taiwan as part of China. American politicians always represent Taiwan as being an independent country. Yet the American State Department insists Taiwan doesn't exist as an independent country, it's really part of China. It's one of the most openly two-faced diplomatic hypocrisies America engages in, and that's saying something. And it's been that way for decades.

The article touches on how the Taiwanese view themselves as a separate country , yet they do not go as far as declaring independence from China.

Of course they are if we consider the wording 'declaring' and 'advocating' having the same meaning, which could be to announce something or a cause clearly and publicly - from the article -

China seems to have no issue in understanding what the Taiwanese goals are in that regard.

He's playing Chinese Chess. Which is like regular chess, only you make an amateur move and let the Indian kid win at some point.

They are doing their typical Paper Tiger Test. In 2017 Trump lost the paper tiger test

And by already dropping 50% to 10% he's returning to the mold they know and are comfortable with. He's on track to retain his title.

He can twist the Muslims into a frenzy over a Gaza offer, but can he change the official statement to say "The United States recognizes Taiwanese sovereignty." Or is he biting Chinese ankles again? Using "routine maintenance" to screw with them a little?

With China, he now needs to make statements towards joining this list or fail a second time. At very least, never put back the part that says we do not recognize Taiwan.

The Trump/Paper Tiger thing, it's true and he's doing it again with China with a slap on the wrist small tariff.

What's more important, Taiwanese semiconductors or appeasing China.

Definitely a mind game. Which China does nothing but...

I still don't think he can fix the routine maintenance "error" now without looking weak to them. Even a "just joking" angle is backing down. If he wants to not not say something he's gotta own it now.

The semiconductor thing is another massive globalized one world type thing. The Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is the big one that supplies the US microchip tech giants. And they even have a plant in Arizona to better serve those clients.

Maybe he's just doing this so the Chinese tariffs exempt Taiwan, and the all important TSMC, for the benefit of tech giants like, Nvidia, Apple, and Qualcomm?

We need our microchips. His tweets are twittered by Taiwanese components. Elon's cars can't drive themselves without those semiconductors.

China is angry for sure and does not seem to be letting it go.

So IP, just how far will the U.S. go to protect Taiwan's semiconductor source?

Will China retaliate through a trade war/tariffs with tungsten, again?
