Maybe this will work 30mm Grenade RIFLE
#1
Quote:This is the U.S army’s revolutionary new prototype 30mil grenade launcher called the Squad Support Rifle System. It’s a portable shoulder fired setami-auto magazine fed nade spammer that lets your average infantryman rapidly engage the enemy with a bunch of different types of explosives. But it’s more than just the ultimate nube tube. The SSRS is a whole new category of weapon capability: it’s not a rifle or launcher it’s both sorta, it’s the American infantry’s first ever precision explosive rifle.

They have been trying to replace the 40mm since Vietnam maybe this will work ?

Imagine.......... a grenade launcher, with a scope.   I am totally "blown away".   Shocked2

Yep and the scope is a high tech range finder and programmer for the round to be used.. Other than the kick and the no doubt insane cost of each round to be fired maybe this weapon will be adopted... Some will miss the thump of the 40mm Thumper though!

I would say 'I want one', except for the fear that would place me on some nefarious governmental list.   No, screw it.  I want one.   For my hobby shooting.

I was in a unit that participated in the evaluation of a similar weapon almost 20 years ago. I wonder if this is an evolution of that or if it’s completely new. This would have been at Fort Bragg circa 2005-2007.

As I recall, the basic receiver had the feel of an AR-10 with a magwell and bolt custom-made by a small shop. The upper/barrel I believe were commercial products and not custom-made. I think we saw two iterations of it before the program stopped. I forgot all about it until I saw this. Now I’m intrigued.

Edit to add: Looking a bit closer, the barrel was different, however the bolt was very similar to the one in the video. Stock was a fixed minimal steel frame, think of a folding “wire” type shape but much more stout and not folding.

Looks like a Warhammer 40k Bolter. Only those are .75cal, so just a hair under 20mm. Still…the visual similarities are there! Adpetus Mechanicus is hard at work!

Go look up the Chinese LG5 / QLU11 Sniper Grenade Launcher, and if you can find it a video of them firing it. They knew they could not mass produce the ammo for a 40mm grenade machine gun, so they went the other way and turned it into a sniper rifle.
