July 4th Patriotism and The Tyrannical HOA

Here is some July 4th Patriotism for everyone!

Quote:SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — Some San Marcos residents are preparing for a battle with their HOA board just days before America’s 250th birthday after being threatened with $100 fines for having American flags displayed outside their townhouses.

“Having to defend our freedom to display the symbol of freedom is something I never thought I'd experience in America,” said Amy Cooke, who’s been instructed by the Ambiance Owners' Association to take down a flag displayed on her garage door frame.

I would hope right or left can agree, this is some ridiculous CA HOA shit.
Quote:Under the federal Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005, HOAs, condos, and co-ops cannot outright prohibit residents from displaying the U.S. flag on residential property where they have an ownership interest or exclusive possession.

Some ridiculous illegal HOA shit.

This is why its so easy to say people on the left are anti-american.  As soon as you say "flying American flags is a sign of right-wing nationalism," Joe, you enable idiots like at this home owners association their chance to piss off those most likely to defy such a rule.

Which is exactly what they likely want. To be mean.

It's appeal to flimsy neighborhood authority that is way out of line.  And I really hope they follow the joyless interests doing this and back themselves into some counterproductive corner and lose anyway, for the threat of fines alone.

And it kinda irks me the flying of the flag is not immune from partisan polarization. Especially the ones my age (on the left) that truly think "only far right people fly American flags."

Another way it self-perpetuates the divide.

But the homeowners have nothing to worry about. Even in CA.
Quote:California Civil Code Section 4705 protects the right of homeowners in common interest developments (like HOAs) to display the United States flag. It invalidates any governing document that limits or prohibits this display, though the HOA can enforce reasonable rules regarding size, placement, and installation

What Is Protected: Homeowners can display the U.S. flag on their separate interest (e.g., house, yard) or exclusive use common area (e.g., a designated balcony).

Allowed Materials: The statute defines the "display of the flag of the United States" as one made of fabric, cloth, or paper, displayed on a pole, staff, or in a window. It does not cover flags made of lights, paint, balloons, or paving materials.

If an HOA violates this law and takes legal action to enforce an improper flag restriction, the prevailing party is awarded reasonable attorney's fees and costs.

The scumbags! This is a general and growing problem with HOA's not just in California, but all of the USA. Florida had to pass laws to increase transparency due to the excessive sudden rise in HOA fees and local taxes was making life insufferable with living expenses.

This is kind of behavior is inexcusable. Yes, hopefully they rake the HOA bozos through the coals in court. There should  be some law where the first time an HOA attempts to abuse its power like this, all voting members who approved it spend three months in jail and the HOA is completely disbanded.

That would be some sweet justice and a reminder to those who would think they have suddenly anointed themselves the ruling nobility over the residents and their homes.

Whoops, NY Post got hold of the story...

So this HOA is fucked now.  Soon people will line the sidewalk outside this neighborhood waving American flags just to shove it up their ass.

They violated Federal and State law and will get called on it.

But i don't like how the flag has become a divisive symbol and stereotype. I suppose its always been way more common for the right to put a flag up, but it bugs me how "post-colonialism" made it a profane symbol of imperialism or something.

I swear it entered the postmodern collective as "associated with militaristic nationalism" ... except when team USA plays a world cup game..

So (for some) it's like our flag is fine for sports and on government buildings, or even carrying at a protest march, but once it enters free exercise or personal expression (like your home), it tranforms into a completely different symbol...  when done there, it's not for America anymore, it's for THEIR America and can even mean they support that who can remain nameless this time.

...and i find that all very ridiculous.
