Is it time to tax the rich yet?
Nope, thats not a good idea, though it sounds great written on a placard
Quote:Taxing the rich often falls short because they have the resources to exploit loopholes, move assets offshore, or relocate to lower-tax jurisdictions. High tax rates can also discourage investment and entrepreneurship, potentially slowing economic growth. For example, when France implemented a 75% supertax on high earners in 2012, many wealthy individuals left the country, and tax revenue didn’t increase as expected. Meanwhile, the top 1% in the U.S. already pay about 40% of federal income taxes, so squeezing more out of them yields diminishing returns. On the flip side, proponents argue it could reduce inequality if enforced effectively, but enforcement is the crux—complex tax codes and global mobility make it tough to pin down wealth. The issue’s a tug-of-war between fairness and practicality.

There are arguments for and against, it appears:
"Yes, taxing the rich is a complex topic with various perspectives, and arguments can be made both for and against it. Many believe higher taxes on the wealthy are necessary for social and economic fairness, while others argue they can stifle economic growth and discourage investment."
So if some leave, offer attractive tax incentives for other foreign business to come in, but tax them too. There is always a solution.
"A third rationale for a wealth tax is to correct the current dominant regressive tax system throughout the world. Even as the wealth of the richest has grown by leaps and bounds, their tax rates have also collapsed. On the other hand, the tax rates of the low-income working classes have become higher than that of the billionaires.
These reversals have become more prominent in the last four decades as governments have implemented tax reforms favoring regressive and consumption taxes while reducing taxes of corporations and the wealthy. The tax burden has therefore shifted from the upper classes to the poor classes."

Are you ok with no independent government oversight?
DOGE is the independent government oversight and I am perfectly fine with it.
You being a Liberal, are hurt that 70% of the waste, fraud and abuse that they have uncovered are for Liberal pet projects.
Your definition of "government oversight" should look the other way on that stuff and continue to scam the American taxpayers.
And we should outsource our spaceflight to our adversaries Russia and China because Musk hurts your feelings?

Where did the money that they saved go? No transparency, but you are okay with that, your economic funeral, not mine.

So anyone voicing an opposing opinion has to be a lib to you? I am all for finding waste and fraud but without independent oversight you really don't know what they found. Some say billions others say millions, it's a joke. I believe you are all being lied to and conned along. But, hey, if you are okay with that, go forth and pay more taxes, learn to live in the upcoming recession, and keep losing those jobs.

Rehire those inspectors. What's to fear?

There should be no monopolies, is my opinion. Musk does not affect me at all, I am just opining on what I see going on.

Yep as a far away outsider looking in ( & neither red nor blue ! ) I must say it's dissapointing greatly just how in depth tptb have got a large proportion of you 'merican's immersed to cult like levels over the absurd 2party illusion.
Regards to DOGE, when did it ever mean enough that some billionaire oligarch tweets that he's done this or that & caught out all sorts of nefarious thieves for a large % of populace to simply take his word ?
All these crooks ripping the system, where are they ? Who are they ? Why no arrests ?
I thought from day one..... " America first " ?...I must have missed hearing the part stating " after Israel & 500billion to Billionaire Technocrats.
Hate to point out the bleeding obvious but there don't exist one party or another you simply have Government.
suits that pass the baton along to other suits & they all seek to better their life at the expense of yours & mine !
