Is this photo of a strange vehicle in a mountainside real?
#1
Two websites from 2003 published this photograph below along with several others which unfortunately Wayback Machine couldn't capture. It appears to show an opening in a mountainside through which some kind of mechanical object can be discerned.

Both websites contained contradictory explanations about the origin of the photos but did agree it was a craft or vehicle of some description. Apparently on one close-up photo the word ARK and a symbol representing the number two was inscribed on the side of the object.

It was probably all a hoax.

Mod Edit to add photo. We are working on a tutorial to explain adding photos.

It looks like a partially completed bridge.

How can anyone look at concrete columns sticking out of the ground with steel girders tying the tops together, forming a level, bridge-like surface, and think "vehicle?"

There were more photographs but Wayback Machine couldn't capture them. Accordng to the text one of the missing photographs was up close of whatever it is in the tunnel.

I agree though in the unlikely event the photos are genuine, it's probably quite prosaic.

I'm kinda embarrassed about posting this now. Obviously it was a load of rubbish like so much that was on the Internet circa 2003.

A friend has been showing me a lot of digital artwork lately and the lighting used in the picture reminded me of it

No worries there's nothing wrong with bringing up questions.

It tracks to being hype leading up to a fiction novel and later movie, The Shift of the Ages.

If you go down the rabbit hole, you will find it's all about the 2012 myth. Entirely fiction.

It's more or less explained on this WordPress site.
Quote:On October 12, 2002, a post was published at the website “8march2003.com.” Within days, it had been shared across hundreds of message boards around the Internet.
Upon visiting the website, you are greeted by giant red text that reads:
“GLOBAL PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT”
“On this date an astounding discovery will be revealed to the world
On March 8th 2003 something extraordinary will be posted on this site
Something that could have Global implications

If you scroll about half way down the page in the above link, you will find another photo of the same fictional location from a different angle. Supposedly taken from a small plane.

Follow the breadcrumbs around the Internet, and there are surviving bits and pieces regarding the fictional novel and movie. The keyword being "fiction".

That type of marketing ploy was popular in those years.
