Yeah, I also expect a big correction within six months. We need phones to communicate, I think that some more stable telephone company stocks will not be hit so hard. Neither will food production company stocks, and maybe stocks from companies necessary for our survival will not decline too much.
But a lot of technology stocks will be hit hard. Always remember, stocks are bets on the stocks, not the security of the market. Insider ownership is higher in some of the more stable companies....I have seen shares of stock in a company we had stock in years ago go down two dollars a share with very few shares being traded in a day. Even a small number of shareholders selling their stock in a day can lower the value if the majority of shareholders are holding onto their stock. The next day of the event I talked about, the shares went up almost all the way back up as people bought some more shares when the price dipped. Whenever we sold stocks, by the time the stocks actually traded, the price had dropped so that is our luck, sold because it was high and by the time the stock actually got sold two days later, it dropped. Now the trading is much faster than it was back in the mid eighties to early ninety, but then again, prices fluctuate much faster too.
We have a decently stable stock yet, but it is not that good at going up in value, but it does pay dividends quarterly, which is nice when we are retired. The last dividend check plus extra went to pumping out the septic tank. What a crappy way to spend a dividend check. Five years ago it ws two hundred bucks to pump it, now it was four thirty five. They raised the cost of the septic trucks bringing the sewage to the sewer treatment plants way up this year, and that extra charge raised people's cost of the septic services around here almost a hundred fifty bucks from last summer. Yesterday was a crappy day, maybe we should invest in sewage treatment plants.
