My Wife tells me "ER Stories" and people are friggin' crazy.
When we lived in Illinois she worked in Terre Haute, Indiana. At that hospital they had the "prison ward" on her floor. A wing of that floor that was just for treating prisoners from the local, State and Federal prison. The Federal is the one that executed Timothy McVeigh.
VERY heavily guarded at all times, with at least 2 guards in the room with her when she was treating one of them.
Guys would take the blades out of disposable razors, wrap them in tape and shove them in their urethra...usually 4 at a time. They would stay there till they got a UTI, kidney infection or their penis would get infected, so they got a few of days in the hospital, light pain meds and antibiotics.
Off the top of my head.....
ketchup bottles, the big plastic ones.
Same with mustard.
Bottles of hotsauce.
Razor blades.
Pens/pencils.
Guys would come in who had been stabbed or stabbed themselves.
Many, many more and usually weird ones.
She said the only bright spot was when a child molester was beaten almost to death and spent over 2 weeks there. He got the same care as any other patient, but no one spoke to him the whole time he was there. He begged for people to talk to him, but they never said a word.
