Surprisingly, Amazon gave me $25 towards a new 8 core tablet. The new tablet, during Black Friday, and with the discount, was only $60. Getting this old well-used tablet ready to return has been a challenge.
Initially, I was going to replace the battery, but when I realized the battery is a flexible thing, in a foil pouch, glued into the case, I decided against it.
This old tablet was completely discharged, and was really difficult to charge, even with the back panel off, and exactly the right usb cable. It was stuck at 15% charge and sort of hot, for the longest time. This morning though, happily, it was at 100%, and that was plenty of power to do a factory reset.
Later today, I will clean the power button mechanism, and pop the rear case back on, then pack it up.
I wonder what they will do with it, whether they will test it, and do an engineering autopsy to see why it lasted so long. It is the equivalent of a million-mile car.
